It seemed like a cool idea when I read about it.  Total pain in the ass in practice, I take it?

There are also a bunch of trees with one piece of the trunk missing, only to be found placed on the ground about a dozen tiles away.

There's no way EA and UBI etc can be allowed with 100' of minecraft.

Activision would: Create a super-HD Minecraft clone with many of the best features of Terraria using a passionate dev team who produces a labor of love that turns out to be one of the best games of all time, release it on every platform known to man, have it sell like hotcakes, and then crank out three sequels a year, each more desperate and shoddy than the last, until they crash the "creative block-based world-building" genre.

Ubisoft would: Create Minecraft+ with a byzantine maze of DRM and login procedures and ping your internet connection every time you place a block in single-player.

EA would: Spend $50 million to buy Mojang after Activision makes their killer Minecraft clone, bloat the studio to a 300 person monstrosity, have them crunch 18 hours a day for two years, and then release what is essentially the same Minecraft as we have now, but using a grim-n-gritty serious business art style with half the blocks and features locked out behind about $600 worth of DLC. Then they'd fire everybody.

Zynga would: Put a stripped-down clone of Minecraft on Facebook with only a quarter of the blocks, no Survival mode, and a limited number of building materials that you have to refresh by spamming Facebook friends or paying $$$. It would then be hailed by every form of media in the world as a grand new never-before-seen innovation and make the company billions.

I think if endermen had a goal hierarchy in their AI so that they only messed with blocks or structures under certain highly particular circumstances (say they know you're on the other side of that wall--that would be fun and freaky) it would be good.

Aww, I'm sad they are going to nerf the endermen. How else will the spiders be let into shoddy construction!

My shoddy construction itself lets spiders in without any Endervention just fine, thank you very much.

Not sure if want, but whatever.

I was hoping for a 1.8.1 this week, stability is really annoying ( God dam orbs and mem leak ).

It's been stable for me. Turns out I didn't have 64-bit java. Set that up the way you mentioned and it's been solid.

Runs like shit on OSX and the magic mouse's scroll isn't as smooth as my pc's logitech scrolling (my bet is due to the crappy performance on OSX). The dodgy right click on the magic mouse hasn't been much of an issue, though I haven't played for more than a few minutes. Running on a 2.66GHz C2D mini with 8GB RAM.

Are you crashing with "out of memory"? I've found leaving my view distance at "Normal" rather than "Far" has increased the stability quite a bit.

Well, I was, but I am speaking of the Server issues. Our server spits out error like candy and has a tendency to crash after a bit. This is aside from the orb issue that we have mostly avoided lately.

Previous versions have gone months before crashing, 1.8, not so much.

The Enderman block thing would have been fine if they had some way to distinguish and ignore blocks placed by the player.

EDIT: After starting up my old game under 1.8, I stumbled across what can only be described as a sinkhole - a vertical shaft that went so deep into the earth I couldn't see the bottom. I'm reasonably sure it wasn't there before.

I don't find endermen that scary, also. So far all three of them I've seen have teleported towards me--and ended up in open space over a chasm or have teleported into lava.

I've seen a couple endermans so far. One I saw just before dawn, so that's how I learned that they burn in the sun, like zombies.

Thanks to this thread, I now know what happened to the birch tree that I found with a block torn out of its trunk.

If the endermans were going to build something with their blocks, that would be pretty cool. As it is, I'm just as happy that they'll get nerfed.

The first time I saw them, they became my favorite mobs. The creepy eyes, and they kept teleporting RIGHT BEHIND ME. I'm with Hutch: if the endermen were stealing the blocks to build some kind of crazy enderman village/hive/foozle, it would be worth the oddness of random missing blocks.

Had a few minutes on lunch, so I decided to work on my quarry a bit. I decided last night to give it a glass roof so I could mine in full daylight but have some barrier to mobs if needed. Got maybe three layers down and broke through to what looks like a pretty massive cave system. While setting out torches, I noticed an entrance to what I think is an abandoned mine (I saw some cobwebs and something wooden) and I also found a mossy cobblestone room with a monster spawner, which was pretty cool. I also ran out of torches right then, so discretion being the better part of valor and all...

Shift-clicking into full chests/inventory crash still exists, it just moved from a client crash to a server crash with 1.8.1. That's what keeps killing us, someone gets careless, and boom.

Minecraft 1.8.5 patch notes:
 - Endermen no longer carry blocks
 - For game balance purposes, creepers can now teleport  why so serious?

Lies.

Also we do not know what he means by "nerf", he could very well add some sort of block type filter, or remove it completely.

Khaldun - post your seed!  I'd love to check that out.

Also, it will be interesting to see how the artifact mod (http://theartifactmod.tumblr.com/) grows as 2.0 launches.  I hope it actually comes to fruition.  Should make for a helluva ride.

What is the artifact mod?

I haven't played with any mods.

You fill in the holes on trees?  No wonder you hate Endermen stealing blocks.

Er, no, I meant I find the tree block thing really irritating (logically/aesthetically), but I don't mind the missing blocks in structures, those are the ones where I go fill them in.

That abandoned mine goes on for ages! I went back, finished my quarry, the mine was only about 15 blocks above bedrock. A few spider generators and another treasure room, this time with actual "treasure" (kind of underwhelming, really).
