http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/615356-patch-furnace-crash/

This fanpatch fixed the furnace for me.

Edit: I knew there seemed to be a lot of abandoned mines that felt like they went on forever, but...

... I had no idea just how many there were. I think they need to be toned down just a teeny tiny bit.

2nd version of pre-release 1.8 here.

This fixed my furnace bug.  Haven't played enough yet to see what else is fixed but seems stable.

I was playing on a multiplayer server today.  It was really fun until the OP decided to change shit all over the place.  Now I can't find my sekret route to the bottom anymore.  Argh.

There's an village (taken over by players) over a really huge abandoned mine.  I was mining really deep, only person on the server, and I could hear what sounded like someone near me mining.  It was so creepy!

I have jumped out of my chair a few times today.  Creepers blowing up and zombies dropping behind me.  It's awesome.

Anyone have a good survival multiplayer going (where the OP doesn't change stuff constantly)?

I still can't login, is there something I need to do?  Do I need to download a new launcher?

Edit: Downloading the new client from Minecraft.net did solve the problem for me.  I may have been quite out of date though, I dunno.  I haven't played in over a month.

How's 1.8 work with existing worlds? Most patches haven't had this drastic of an effect on the terrain and such, so I've been using the same world since...1.4?

Quite sure you will ONLY see new terrain stuff, Biomes and materials in newly generated areas on your server. IE: Land you have not explored yet.

I can confirm, the login Failed issues are because of an outdated launcher, just redownload.

Loving the new terrain generation so far, much more interesting looking areas. There was a pit just outside our spawn area for example, that went about 25 squares deep, and had a lava waterfall running down inside it.

I actually don't mind the eating (gives some reason behind farming now at least) and I like the health regen a lot. Kind of cool getting xp for killing things, even if it means absolutely nothing so far.

Now I just need to figure out why it hard-locks my computer every twenty minutes.

Snow generation is still out, I think.  1.9 is supposed to fix it.  Oddly, I love the snowy areas and likely won't start playing again until they're working properly.

I hope at some point that cobblestone overworld buildings begin to wear over time (turning into mossy cobblestone, vines).  I love making buildings in this game.

Somehow, oddly, I keep running out of memory. Its quite frustrating. I ended up bumping my view distance down one step and have not crashed up since. Still... Out of memory, how does that even happen?

Have you looked at whether or not it exceeds the 2GB mark? I just know from back when I was fiddling with openttd that going fully OO on tiles suck a lot of memory, and I was just looking at 2048x2048, and all I stored was a few basic things like X, Y and a few flags.

The seams between old and new areas are also apparently pretty horrid.

Just fired it up since it'd been eons since I played it last. It took about 3 minutes before I got the out of memory error, and it was not because it exceeded 2GB. Scratch one theory.

I have to say, though, Notch is funny. 900MB of memory just to display a menu. awesome, for real

And if 1.8 full is anything like 1.8 pre-release, land stops generating after a "short" (or as short as 100k tiles x 100k tiles can be) span.

It wasn't because of the stronghold itself, it was my rampant shift clicking inventory!

Or you can start now and keep rebuilding each time you restart due to new versions. Build more, not smarter! why so serious?

I ran into something similar earlier on an MP server I play on.

Doesn't look like much, right? What that screenshot doesn't tell you is that the ravine is more than 60 tiles deep, is filled with a believably dilapidated mine system, and straight ahead and to the left inside the ravine? It opens up into an utterly massive cavern full of waterfalls, lava, and creepers. It's essentially Moria. A friend and I dug around in there for about an hour until we dug too greedily and stumbled upon three cave spider monster spawners which spewed so many spiders at us that we couldn't kill them all long enough for one of us to destroy one of the spawners. We eventually had to seal off that area of the mine and high-tail it out. I eventually made my way back topside and went about my business, but the other guy stayed long enough to discover a second ravine inside a large cave system connected to the first ravine which goes all the way to bedrock.
