I get the impression he hit the skybox. If he could find a way to angle it so he flies a bit more straight, he's onto something.

Best way to travel accross the map imo.  Enterprising groups could build a 'railgun' network across maps instead of using roads or minecarts.

Regarding lava for lighting. They'll need to work some bugs out. It's not like water physics, or even slowed down water physics. You plant a lava spring and then try to move it for whatever reason, odds are most of the lava 'waterfall' will persist for a random amount of time in ways that make no physical sense.

Just gave up on a game when I got tired of having to mop up giant lava spills by placing and removing dirt after trying to put some outside my base.

Just illuminate hallways with incinerators. Dig 2 tiles deep, 3 tall. Place a full block at the top closest to the hallway and a half stone at the bottom (this stops the lava from coming out and you from going in), then place blocks of lava in the top at the back and you have yourself a waterfall of lava that never stops, light AND a place to throw junk so it actually gets destroyed.

That's too complicated.  I discovered today that I can dump a bucket of lava on the side of a column and it will flow down to the ground and not spread.  I did this several times outside my "front" gates and along the roadway to my tower.  I then punched a pig into the lava just to be sure it was working.



I'm getting some great ideas on lava flows that will certainly have a negative impact on server memory usage.

I've mentioned that I play a lot of minecraft, but I don't play on the F13 server; The server I play on, (one of the SA servers), is planning on resetting it's world for the holloween update. The world itself will be taken offline and will be avail as a single player download, but that's kind of boring and annoying to show it off.

So, I'm welcoming you all to come check out all the crap on there before it's wiped. You'll be a tourist so you can't build anything, but there's some super cool shit on there. If anyone asks, mention you're just a tourist and that I invited you to gawk. The server is "minecraft.chickenkiller.com". Here's the current map with labeled /warp points. Click it, it's big.

Heh, so I was experimenting with mine carts and boosters on single player (had to start from scratch as I never played single player.  So I get a bunch of iron, make railroad ties, carts, etc, and while I'm working I crash, relog and I die suffocating on rock because everything I did to the world had reverted back to a fresh map.  That sucked.

I joined in on the multiplayer fun yesterday! Right now I'm just clearing land and marking it with torches, but it's going to be awesome. I like everyone's creations so far. The cathedral was pretty neat as I walked in it.

Lots of work on the server. How many people have been responsible for it, and how long have you been going?

Maybe 10-20, on and off. I'd say 2-3 months work, but obviously some people work harder than others. I've honestly only done maybe 30 hours of construction over that time.

Some questions for people that have been working on F13 server for a while now. Some of these massive projects are you inventory hacking in your resources or gathering/smelting/making it?

Ran into the area over by "Mine" and all the underwater glass blew my mind that someone spent the time smelting that when it takes ~10seconds to smelt one piece.

If you have a large bank of furnaces the smelting time is irrelevant.  And it's not like they're hard to make.

As far as I know, no one is inventory hacking.  Also, if you set up a system of like 10 forges, its 1 glass per 1 second, more or less.  So, with a little preparation you can drastically increase the rate at which you smelt things.

Ah that explains it, last time I played if you left the furnace in MP it lost everything in it.

Yeah, the ounderwater glass is mine, all smelted.  Even when untended smelted shit disappeared, it didn't when the sceen was open.  Trick is just timing it so that you have enough time to grab the stack from the first oven, open the second oven, and have time to spare until it's finished.

Forges are quirky, for sure.  I usually have to close and reopen it to see the finished materials.

I just use coal.  It may be a limited resource, but take a gander at the reverse mine.  It's all over the place.

Related, I've taken to dropping cobblestone and letting it disappear instead of placing it.  Volume mining did that to me.
