Nice screenshots koro, love the setup. I realized I don't do much interior decorating type stuff in Technic, despite being pretty into it in vanilla MC; I guess because I always have 10 things that need making I never get around to it.

Glad to see you're giving Technic a chance Xan! Werewolves are weak against gold swords, all other weapons take forever to kill them. If you're going to keep Mo Creatures on you pretty much have to carry around a few gold swords just to deal with them.

The better way to selectively disable Mo' Creatures is through the options menus, the creator gives you complete control over what can spawn. After clicking the Options button from the Minecraft screen you'll see a "Global Mod Settings" button.
I suppose it is a bit spoilery to someone going in cold - listing out all the names of things (at minimum you'd see the Hostile Mobs in that section) - you might prefer to encounter them in the wild first.

I didn't even see a specific Mo'Creatures option menu when I poked around initially. I may reenable it and give it a shot once the big 1.3 update hits, whenever that will be.

I don't remember that option either. I like 90% of the mod but Ogres are a deal breaker for me, so I'd be interested in enabling the rest.

Ah ha, there is indeed a Mo'Creatures options menu. Escape > Options > Global Mod Settings, and it's right there.

Hmm, I think I must have deleted it entirely. Guess I'll look into re-downloading it so I can turn it back on.

"Ogres seem to spawn near villages at night, often accompanied by a Werewolf or other Ogres." (from the wiki)

Fortunately, there is a volcano right next door that I can get basalt from for my basalt house, which ogres apparently can't destroy.

That is, once I figure out how to mine it. Or maybe I can just tunnel into it somehow. Once I figure out how to mine it.

Ogres on normal is like ultra hard mode. Certainly a memorable way to be introduced to Technic Pack, although I think I prefer the way trees get cut down so much better.

Basalt can be mined by pretty much anything. It's just kinda slow to do so early on.

Sure, if you disable Somnia. Otherwise shit spawns like normal and still wrecks up the place, only faster and you can't do anything about it.

And thinking back on it, the main reason I disabled Mo' Creatures is because I really dislike the basic idea of having naturally hostile mob spawns aboveground in broad daylight, which is just so un-Minecraft to me. I could get around it by disabling the hostile animals, but it'd remove a nontrivial amount of stuff from the mod.

I shut off ogres in my Mo'Creatures mod, but then I encountered a werewolf underground. I didn't know what was going on, and wore out nearly an entire sword killing it.
The next one got a bucket of lava in the face. I was pleased to see how quickly that took care of it :)

I don't have a problem with daytime hostiles, particularly brcause they add some needed challenge to Technic. I just can't stand mobs breaking my stuff, or spawning inside my buildings (like those pink ThaumCraft slimes(.

I was hunting for rubber, and I discovered oil!

I still need to find an ink sac. With all the sharks and fish and porpoises, I haven't seen a single squid yet. I suppose I must find an ocean for squid?

Squid are around in any body of water (even one-block-wide water ditches), but like one of the tutorials says, they're rarer than unicorns now.

I love Somnia. No monsters bother me inside my little hidey hole, which is made of marble. Found some big marble deposits inside a chasm, so just built a place there. It's kind of ghetto though, so I want to build a proper house.

Finally found squid. I turned off all the water mobs except squid to do it though. Then I went back to default.

Saw one ogre in the daytime as I was about to exit my hole, so I went back down and mined for awhile. He was gone when I came up again.

 Ohhhhh, I see.

At any rate, I finally figured out how to remove atmospheric taint: vis condensers upgraded with Concentrated Evil (along with a Stabilized Singularity to get the most mileage out of crystals, or a Quicksilver Core if you need a lot of atmospheric taint gone right now) burning off tainted crystals into vis tanks, which are then hooked up to pumps and purifiers. One tainted crystal combined with the singularity can completely remove at least 300 taint from the atmosphere.

It's expensive and time-consuming, but as far as I can tell it is the only way.

Once I got a couple of inksacs, I re-set Mo'Creatures to the default settings.

I was getting so jumpy that I finally turned off ogres (making them only spawn on hard mode). It's a little more relaxing to play now. I don't mind being jumped by the occasional mob, but I was starting to have enough stuff that I didn't want to purely focus on putting things into a destruction proof vault.

There is so much in Technic that I'm a little buried by all the things to do. I made an iron furnace, a generator, some RE-thingies, a macerator and an extractor. Then I made a quaesitum, and surrrounded it with some bookcases (I have 18 around it - 2 high - do more help? what's the max that helps?), and started feeding it cobble.

I found a chest in my mine with a bunch of artifacts in it. I've stashed those for now, figuring to use them when I understand what is best to use them on.

Discovered some things with lost fragments but not how to make a crystalline bell. Making a very large sugarcane farm so I can feed bookcases into the quaesitum rather than cobble.

Haven't even started with Mystcraft or EE yet or redstone. I did learn how to put a bunny on my head.

Now I'm going to reread the last few pages to glean more with my newfound understanding!

You need to research an actual vis crystal (by putting it into the Quaesitum) to discover the Crystalline Bell recipe. I generally use artifacts once I've got a particularly difficult theory (Hard or harder) and just use bookcases and such for researching fragments; it's only worth using artifacts on the same type of knowledge that they are. Regular artifacts are for lost knowledge, the others are all labeled appropriately. The ideal setup for a Quaesitum looks like this:

BBBBB
BXXXB
BXQXB
BXXXB
BBBBB

B=Bookcase or Brain-in-a-jar, stack these 2-high
X=Empty space
Q=Quaesitum

You probably also want to look into learning the basics of BuildCraft (pipes and engines) so you can move things around automatically. A BatBox and a couple Solar Panels will probably go a long way too, just so you can run your machines automatically without having to feed your generator coal by hand; if you're making Solar Panels make sure to make the ones that look like blocks/use coal dust, not the one that looks like a slab/takes blue wafers (the slab ones are for RedPower).

Anyone know what version of Mo'Creatures the current Technic uses? I deleted it and now I'd like to add it back in but don't want to fuck anything up compatibility-wise.

3.7.1 for Mo' Creatures. I can Dropbox it for you so that you can just drop it straight into your /technicssp/mods folder.

Edit: Here it is. I'll leave it up for about 12 hours or so.

Also, as far as enchanting and researching go, if you're just using bookshelves for now, you'll want to do them three layers high. The general rule of thumb I've found is to either have three layers of bookshelves, two layers of bookshelves and a layer of brains-in-a-jar, or two layers of brains-in-a-jar. Anything less than one of those combinations tends to leave you lacking.

Thanks, I'll grab it after work. Regarding bookcases, will it detect them a level below the Quaesitum (like, set in the floor) or only on the same level or above?

I imagine they have the same mechanics as enchanting tables, so they'd need actual line of sight to the bookshelves and be on the same height or higher.

Also, I've pretty much gotten all I need as far as gear goes:

The Crusher acts as a combo Pickaxe of the Core and Shovel of Renewal, AoE smashing through rock and dirt, though it doesn't get the bonemeal effect of the shovel or the auto-smelt of the pick. The Cutter is a mix of the Sword of the Zephyr and the Axe of the Stream, though it doesn't have the super jump of the sword. It lets you chop down things like rubber and Greatwood in one chop even though they're not supported by Treecapitator. The Bow of Bone is just a rapid-fire bow that I've enchanted to have infinite arrows; it also sometimes spawns a friendly skeleton to plink at enemies when I kill a thing.

When Technic for 1.3.2 comes out, this is going to be more of a pain since books now take leather.

But with Mo'Creatures, I slaughter most of what I see. Horses were cute until I realized their hopping all over my wheat fields tramples them. And those fucking goats! Can't harvest anything without them eating it.

I imagine you can still burn EMC to clone leather or books if needed, which will help if it proves to be too much of a hassle. I'll probably start a cow farm regardless.

At any rate, I'm now working on the last big project I can think of outside of raiding The End to hit up the dragon: Gonna make a mass fabricator and a nuclear power plant to run it (and possibly all of the rest of my stuff too, phasing out geothermal as my main source of power), then feed it infinite scrap via a cobble generator so I can make some quantum armor.

Quantum Armor is next on my list; just finished my Ring of Arcana. I need a good weapon too; I'm torn between the ThaumCraft one you're using and a Red Matter one. I also want to make the Catalytic Lens, then I'll probably go dragon slaying and call it a day.

Edit: I downloaded Mo'Creatures, so you can take it down now. Thanks again.

The Elemental Cutter is really nice. The AoE lightning effect is a larger radius on it and it takes forever to break it if you slap Unbreaking on it. I could never get the extra things on the Red Matter sword to work right when I tested it out, even though I had plenty of fuel in my inventory. Being unable to enchant the Red Matter stuff is a huge downside in my book, but I guess it doesn't matter that much.

I may whip up a Red Matter Sword myself for giggles, seeing as I have about 6 million EMC to play around with.

A lot of the EE effects seem to be buggy in this Technic version to be honest: the Ring of Ignition's fireball doesn't seem to do damage, nor does it do the glass-to-sand conversion, Swiftwolf's active ability that's supposed to keep all mobs 5 blocks away from you doesn't do anything either, Evertide's water-to-ice transmute doesn't work (although I'm not sure if that's just a wiki error as that feature is now present on the Zero ring), etc. The Ring bugs exist on the individual items and the Ring of Arcana.

Since I still don't have the Occultic Enchanter I won't mind not being able to enchant my Red Matter Sword., although I'm not sure if I want that or the Nano Saber. I also might futz around with IC farming too, just to see if there's anything interesting there to do in the early game for next time I start fresh; it looked pretty in-depth when I watched Duncan doing it and I've always been a sucker for Harvest Moon games.

So I got the nuclear reactor built, fueled up, running smoothly, and hooked up to my mass fabricator. It's a pretty efficient design that produces a goodly amount of power while requiring no shenanigans as far as cooling is concerned, so I'd just need to refuel it every 3 or so real-time hours.

Unfortunately, atomic power isn't all it's cracked up to be. Despite the power of the reactor, it's not even enough to run my mass fabricator without stopping, never mind also powering two fast electric engines and a recycler to feed the thing. I can put the recycler and engines off on a separate power grid (my largely defunct teleporter's private geothermal grid would do splendidly and is really close to my reactor silo) and free up that EU usage, but even then I have to babysit the fabricator so that it doesn't completely empty the MFSU powering it.

The worst part about it?

A single high-voltage solar array could power the whole shebang without breaking a sweat. The MFSU wouldn't even budge during the day.

True, but a high-voltage solar array is a huge pain in the ass* to build; that's what, 512 solar panels? My giant geothermal plant powers my fabricator, 1 regular electric engine, plus all my macerators and other machines on my main floor, with my MFSU not even moving. 64 geothermal generators fed by a halfassed EMC flower; I was going to build another 18/5 flower just for the geothermal stuff, but after building the arrays and like...7 collectors, it was popping out enough lava cells to keep the MFSU topped off. Making lava cells faster than a full speed redstone engine could pull them out too; I could have put in an electric engine but again, why bother when I can't use all the power anyway? I eventually might add a few more MFSU and another Mass Fabricator and just convert the UU-matter into diamonds, just to see my vision of a giant geothermal factory realized.

Got my Catalytic Lens built too. Best.Item.EVAR. It's the Destruction Catalyst on steroids, that also shoots giant explosions. Perfect synergy with the Divining Rod as the CL at full charge mines a 3x3x64 area. Using the Gem of Eternal Destiny I farmed up 3 Red Matter in like...10 minutes? It's a world-destroying kind of item though, so I'd suggest using MystCraft worlds for mining lest you accidentally right click and ruin something important. It even mines that Eldritch Stone stuff at the bottom of the monoliths (but still not obsidian  swamp poop).

Got some more ThaumCraft research done, and learned the Occultic Enchanter finally. Still need to research the Void Cutter before I can make the badass TC sword. I think my big beef with ThaumCraft is how poorly integrated into Technic it is. None of the items you need for TC have EMC values, which makes it feel like I'm either playing Technic, or ThaumCraft. I understand that they want to make the artifacts rare, but the vis crystals? Quicksilver? Silver/great wood? Let me transmute these things, kthx. Zombie brains too. I'm hoping that it's just because the mod is relatively new to the pack, and not because of an actual design choice by the Technic guys (or the EE guy; I'm not sure who makes these decisions although thinking about it, it's probably not that hard to fix).

*Anyone have any idea what mod has that advanced crafting table the Yogscast guys are all using? RedPower has the project table, but the one they use doesn't seem to be included in Technic (or if it is, it's named something weird like the book stands).

I got two theories for crystalline bell after researching every vis crystal I've found. Both tortuous. I tried researching one, and it was destroyed. Should I even bother with the second, or just try to get more crystals to research in hopes of getting an easier theory to research?

Side question, does LAN games actually work? I fooled around with this for a while last night and the best I could do was able to see the LAN game in my list of games but could never connect to it. I'd researching for an easy theory Xan; Torturous ones are a pain until you've got a lot of artifacts and such to burn on them.

I think the trick we had to use to get LAN games working involved some router settings. Probably redirecting traffic on a port (which port is defined in the minecraft config or ini file) to the IP of the computer running as server.  Sorry about the vagueness of the details, I can't check from here.  The good news is I think once you have it running on LAN it's also (or just one more step) available across the internet, so your son could invite his friends to play as well. I strongly suggest setting it to use a whitelist if you do that though. Much less hassle than dealing with the drama of a school geekbully getting in and trashing the place.

Yes, I know I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?
