Did you ever get the monster farms up, or do I still have to do that? -edit- I'm not sure which was worse, Water world we have now, or Desert World from how ever long ago

I tried a spider farm tonight, but no items. Not sure if they don't drop them anymore or if I messed up something, but thrown items were coming out the chute fine. The last farm I know worked was in 1.8.

I went to inspect it, and it WOULD work fine if some hobbit knew what the shit he was doing!

Defaultsound Alex Downham @jeb_ I know its a bit early to ask, but will we be able to install mods on a server and allow clients to download them upon connecting?
jeb_ Jens Bergensten @Defaultsound That's what we hope to do

All I can think of when thinking of minecraft mods having an actual API to work with is, "unfurl ze internet". I'm going to just assume that the mod productivity is going to go through the roof if the API is sensibly written. Actually... imagine a dwarf fortress mod for minecraft.

I imagined that maybe the third day after I bought Minecraft way back when. I haven't stopped imagining it since.
I would have to find a way to run a business out of my home and have all my food delivered.

It will be delivered by a Caravan of Elephants. Three of them will drown and two of them will stampede into your house once the goblin raiders attack.

I don't understand Minecraft enchanting. I mean, I understand the basics, but I've never seen an enchantment level larger than 12 (even though I had 22 levels or something). My enchanting table is surrounded by 3 high bookcases on all sides (except for 2 doorways through), 1 block away from the table, so I think I'm doing that right.
Last time I enchanted my diamond pickaxe, I picked a 7 cost enchant, and got Unbreaking II and Efficiency II. The time before I had picked an 11 cost enchant and got Unbreaking I.
This makes no sense - I got two enchants on my pick that were both better than the one enchant I had received before?
Is there any way at all to figure out what you're getting? (a mod or something) or is it completely random?

Enchanting article on the WikiI believe all of your questions are answered there, although it looks really complicated to me, so I haven't dug into it in any depth. But your outcome is going to be pretty random. Near the bottom of the page is a picture of how to stack your bookcases, to get maximum level enchants. I copied this configuration, 2 high in a ring around the table, with one gap to get in and out. What I need to do is sub in a graphic that translates the "universal language" into English, so I'm not decoding it by hand whenever I use my table.

You can change your texture pack to translate it for you. It still comes out with mostly random words. "Breath Wet Beast" Just replace the alternate.png. EDIT: Hosting alternate.png

Oh, right - those look like monster spawns in inventory too.
Back to the enchanting thing for a minute.
What is confusing me is that I have my enchant table set up similarly as the one in the wiki shown (except 3 bookcases high on all sides and with two doorways), so there's loads of bookcases in range yet the highest number I've seen in the enchanting table thing under cost is 11 (even though I was up to level 22 or something like that).
The other confusing thing is that I spent more points on my pickaxe last time for a lesser enchant than the one I got this time for two better enchants.
Even after studying the wiki article, these things make no sense to me. Random enchants are one thing, but randomizing the amount and strength and cost?

I just realized I'm brewing all wrong. Each reagent can make 3 bottles, not just one. Just make sure to put the bottles in the brewing stand first.
I should spend more time wiki-ing and less time jumping in.

It doesn't help unless I actually read it and pay attention to what I'm reading and don't skim it! I have this anti-manual thing. I hate rtfming.

He seems rather sane compared to Toady. I'd say the difference is while they're both a) terrible programmers and b) seemingly borderline autistic; Toady does have some sort of grand scheme in his head about where he's going while Notch just throws random half-baked shit in and then gets bored and starts working on something else. Which is why I'm glad Notch has got bored with Minecraft and handed it to Jeb.

Mystery solved. I had put 4 torches on the floor between the table and the bookcases, and that was interfering with it. I removed the torches and now I see big enchantments. Nothing can be in the way, not even torches.

- Bow Enchantments - Added world type options (currently only super-flat and default) - Sheep eat grass and regain their wool
Me likey! The bow enchantment feature follows from bow durability. I wonder if they'll eventually let you make bows out of something other than wood? Although I guess they're pretty powerful already. I might just roll up a super-flat world to see what it looks like :)

Yeah, I like the changes. Flat world though means nothing to me, as I only play multiplayer. The removal of collision on ladders will screw up some of my underwater constructions, but oh well.

OK. It looks like the super-flat world is just grass as far as the eye can see. The world is 3 blocks deep of dirt, and then you're at the bedrock. So ... maybe it's intended for creative types? Kind of pointless otherwise.

Yeah that's what it is for - now those people building those giant computers etc. don't have to use any external mods or programs to set things up with a clean slate.
