Link is my favorite so far. Small collision box, jumps as well as Mario, and can shoot in any direction once he's powered up. The taller characters have trouble with some of the tighter obstacle courses. And Mega Man's jumping sucks.

Great against goombas, but doesn't help much against the fireballs and shit in the fortress levels.
(edit) okay, I played through as Bill. He's pretty goddamn awesome against Lakitu. But his jumping is annoying as hell, since he's always moving horizontally.
