I was bored enough to succumb to picking this game up.
The new Classic Conroller Pro is WAY better. It should have been this from the start.
I enjoy the game a lot more when I have a right analog stick to control the camera. I still don't know how I feel about this game, though. I love all the crafting and items and stuff, but... I kind of wish there was some kind of character progression as well. I know I'll get yelled at by die hard MH fans for saying that.
I have yet to try it online, as I've just been doing the offline stuff for now. It has me interested enough to want to go back to it, though.
Am I alone in the purchase of this?

I've never played one, I would be really interested in reading a biif as I've never figured out what the gameplay is like but it usually looks pretty cool.

I'll probably end up writing one after I dip into some multiplayer.

Not really - you can pick up the remote and 'drag' creatures into your logbook to get more information on them, that's the only real Wii-specific thing I've done.
Thankfully, they've circumvented the whole friend code thing, and you can add friends in-game like normal games do. It also has Wii Speak support.
So while it really has no business being on the Wii, it at least gets an A for effort for trying to do what it can to get as much feature parity as possible, outside of graphic fidelity.

I'd play a Monster Hunter if it was on my XBox or not a portable system.

Classic Controller Pro:
The two trigger buttons have been turned into playstation-style L2 and R2 buttons, with actual handles to be able to grip on it. It's basically a copy of a PS2 controller, but that's not a bad thing.
In the default Classic Controller Pro scheme in Tri, it maps one of the rarer attacks to the Start button, which I was expecting to be a pain in the ass, but the controller is overall small enough, and the button big enough to where it actually isn't that hard to hit. The alternative control scheme maps attacks to the right stick, but then you're stuck using the D-pad for camera control, so fuck that.

Wii's a good start but haven't really taken that system seriously. I own one but it's spent about 99.9% of its time off.

I saw a video review for this the other day and I was so surprised at these (standard everywhere else) features being present I had to rewind to make sure I heard correctly. The game looks fun if the load times aren't too frequent/long.

Wouldn't that be a good reason to pick up a game on the Wii that you're interested in rather than a reason against it?

The load times are still split into load times per little mini subzone, but the load times are super short - I have to be annoyed by a loading screen taking too long.
I took down my first 'big' monster last night, after lots of being awful, getting hit, and chugging potions. I'm starting to get a serious Demon's Souls vibe from this game, so far as their demands on the player. Still wish it had some kind of a lock-on system, but it's okay. It's one of those games that gets defended by the hardcore for having a hard skill curve, and I can see that.

Seriously considering picking this up for one of my two May purchases I'm allowed. I know I'm getting Red Dead Ps3, but I'm on the fence for this or 3dDot heroes.
Looking forward to a Biif, though I think it's been established that it is already.

Gonna attempt to do some more online tonight to see if I can get something out of that, then I'm gonna write one. The people who are fans of this game kind of terrify me though: " You guys just do not get this game. Stop playing and do not review it. If I hear/read/sense just one more moron say this game needs lock on targeting I'm going to flip my shit. LEARN TO FUCKING PLAY. Or just stop complaining, and get far away from this series. You don't understand it and you're too close-minded to learn a game with original gameplay. Go play another FPS or press 12321312323 in your MMO of choice. "

Guys can you suggest a good 360 game? Only caveat is that it can't be a 360 game since that system is lulz and I never turn it on because I don't have any good games for it. Anyway I was not impressed from what I saw of 3D Dot Heroes, I was expecting to like it quite a bit but seeing it in person was pretty meh. I'd say get Tri and Zelda on VC.

Man...toying with my emotions like that...threatening my wallet like that... I'm pretty sure that Monster Hunter was a big influence on Demon's Souls.

The graphics in motion didn't look as cool as I imagined they would in my head. For example you've probably seen screenshots of the guy swinging his sword which comes out as a huge triangle. That attack has like 2 frames of animation and actually seeing it live it looked kinda bad.
I'm not going to say it's a bad game or anything, it just didn't grab or charm me the way I thought it would. I think the visuals come off better in screenshots than live.

I ordered this as well, should be here in a couple days. The Demon's Souls similarity sold me as well, I'm hoping it can live up to that.
I tried the PSP version a couple times before, but I never really got into it.

You know, it's so close to a PS2 controller I find myself wondering if Sony won't try to start shit over it.
