Usually I would avoid a movie that rottentomatoes gives a 52%, but my 9 and 6 year old daughters were dying to see this.

Overall, I actually liked it. There were some funny moments, and it was more watchable (as an adult) than most animated kid flicks I have been dragged to.

The main character (or was it just the actor - i've never read the books) is annoying as hell. I was pulling against him the whole time, and was relieved that afterward my kids understood that he was a punk and bad things happened to him because he behaved like a punk.

The moral of the story of "be yourself and you will be happy - even in middle school" finally came through by the end, and the kids got it.

If you have kids ages 6+ I would definitely recommend it. Especially if they have read the books.

Took both of my kids to see this. My eight year old has read all of the books several times and he was dying to see it. It was better then expected and my son really loved it. The play audition made me and my wife laugh pretty hard.
