I don't really understand how it makes sense to say no to someone who asks to be put in jail.

It makes sense financially? If someone really wants to go to prison, it's not hard for them to commit a crime to get put there. What, it's cheaper to pay for the court hearing, the hospital visit, AND the prison stay than to just pay for the prison stay? They're lucky he didn't just stab someone in the leg to get his prison time. That'd have been easier for him but even more expensive for the state.

I figured he knew this, given that he was in prison before, but it's very easy to get into prison if that's what he wanted: break the law.
I mean, I could be in prison tomorrow if that's what I wanted.

There are so many more fun and/or worthy reasons to go to prison. If you've made up your mind to get back inside, do the public some good, ffs. Take out a wall street ceo or something.

Hey, he just wants to go to prison, he's not a criminal.

Ooooh, maybe he wants to go to minimum security, white collar prison? You know, posh imprisonment?

You'd be surprised. I know in the States homeless try to get locked up alot for free room and board. And no, the "just commit a crime" thing doesn't really fly. Stabbing someone gets you put in butt rape prison. These guys tend to try silly little bullshit breaking the law things to get locked up for awhile, and the cops start seeing through it stop letting them in. Eventually they go away. Sometimes they do much worse things. The later bit there I guess is the head scratcher of why it makes sense. But apparently it's rare enough to still financially make sense. I remember in Fayetteville when I was passing through there alot with Greyhound, that the bums would constantly be trying to get locked up. They would scream and yell, harass the workers at Greyhound, break things, etc; Typically the cops just threw them in the local lockup for a night, which is exactly what they wanted. Sometimes they wouldn't and tell the bums the behavior wasn't going to get them what they wanted, but instead get them locked up in the real jail for awhile. And the bums would knock it off for abit. I guess things make more sense on paper than in practice. People find ways to exploit systems.

There's a very easy way to fix that problem and save lots of money, but I'll avoid veering this into a rehash of an old Politics forum discussion.

Hell, I can get you in prison by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish.

I'm not sure which is more mysterious: what he intends to do, or why he'd post in a dead thread.
