I went in there today to see if I could make any headway on my class quests.  Whoops!  Being lost was OK but the THINGS that live there are occasionally obscene.  I don't want to spoil too much but:
1) Want to get to Zigilgund to give a drink to Lofi
2) What do I need to do to hurt blue mobs?  Is it something with the ice shielding?
3) Do I need to come back at lv50? Currently lv45.

I went through much of west Forochel between 45 and 49. What is a bit off about the zone is the location of the capital, which is actually in the north of the zone. Getting there is a stone cold bitch because it's such a long journey and all of the quests seem to lead you to Zigilund which is the opposite side of the fucking zone. The capital of the Lossoth though is very pretty, especially at night. I ended up running up there simply to turn in the vast amounts of faction items that had been dropping and shitting up my overtaxed inventory.

Did you get there from Ost Forod, or some other way?  After I was there I figured out there must be some way to get from Angmar to Forochel, which would have been less tedious that traveling from Oatbarton.  Asking because there was no way in fucking hell I could make it past those ice grims, but of course I'm a RK and kind of squishy.

I'm about to tackle it again, for some moronic reason.

There's a spot for a path from Angmar to Forochel, but it's blocked. Which kinda sucks.

And Eregion is so SO much better for levelling in, it's staggering. Forochel has better quest rewards, but you'll replace them fast in Moria.

Funny, after I got to Zigilgund and decided that I was being a dumbass, I started wondering how to start on the legendary weapon thingies.  I don't even know how to get to Moria.

Heh, the easy way is to find a hunter who can port you to Echadd Dunann, so you at least know where the Moria gate is on the map, and then backtrack from there.

For Forochel, there are 4 main settlements. There's the first one you get to in the south, with a few quests. It sends you north to the crossroads - if you go west (left), you get to Zigilund. If you go right, that's where you want to go to get the stable master points. It's a LONG MOTHERFUCKING WALK, but for the most part, it wasn't that dangerous if you stay on the path. What you'll find when you get there is that you can get the stable master, but you don't get the swift travel options until you level up your faction with the Lossoth. That's where a lot of those dropped items come into play. If you've done any questing in that area, you've probably got a few of those items already.

Angmar is looking better all the time.  I can't level up much or complete quests without the wife anyway, so I think we need to wrap up some other places/quests before we take on a new area like this.  Namely Trollshaws and (I think) V1B4.  Yea.  I know.

Forochel is the zone I was thinking of the last time I complained about travel in LOTRO.  I spent days questing there doing as much as I could and didn't manage to unlock any of the fast travel options until 10 minutes before I finished the zone, never to enter it again.

Seriously, the devs have to stop using travel as a punishment/reward.

At least they could give it to you early, but really Turbine, I'm just fine with the idea of reaching a destination the hard way once to unlock it.

Seems like Forochel doesn't lead anywhere, is that correct?  Skippable except that I have to do a class quest in there?

And more fast-travel to Rivendell, you fuckers.  Like from the major towns, at least.  Oh, at least from Thorin's!  Please!

I think there might be an epic book in Forochel at some point too.

there is: Book XIII in Volume I

it's a cave instance that used to be impossible with anythng less than a well geared 60+ 3-man  (cold DoTs, very tough).  Dunno now though.

I always thought of Forochel is a primarily solo zone...which was great for me.  I believe at the time there are only 2 group quests (excluding the epic book quest).  It was solo paradise for 45-50.

The entirety of Volume I is soloable now supposedly. I have found it true up through Book 6 or 7 (whatever I'm on, I forget.) They give you an inspiration buff when you're solo that turns you into a murder machine.

It's definitely soloable, yeah. my kinmate [level 46 guardian] just soloed book 8 the other day and got the 'light from the darkness' title. The only snag was a boss fight in one of the book instances where he had to kill the boss before it'd kill the NPC, so he called in my level 50 LM and we cleaned house.

The inspiration buff is pretty awesome, for real. Good for spamming high mana cost abilities that you wouldn't normally use in a fight (so you can unlock their deeds), since your hp/mana recharge almost immediately.

Yeah I abused it a bit for Enmity of the Trolls progress too, as there are a couple places they give it to you with stuff that respawns.

I got waxed on both Book 7 and Book 8's final fights solo, even with inspired greatness. The zombie dragon and the goddamn Nazgul eat my lunch about a level ago.

People are complaining the Carn Dum escort is also impossible solo, since the NPC keeps dying.  Even for Guards.  So yeah, great testing.

I tried to get to Carn Dum solo last night. I'm a level 51 hunter and I can't even get to the goddamn entrance. Is there some back road I'm missing? The only path I can find to the fucking place is through a gauntlet of regular mobs backed up by 9000 HP elite fucking trolls.

I haven't been there since the max level was 50, but back then we used to just run for it.  I was always with a group when we did it so I had tanks leading the charge.  I have no idea if it's possible to make it solo as a Hunter, but might be worth a shot.  The other thing I used to do was ask for a Captain to summon me there or another Hunter to port me to the CD campfire.  I would then set my own campfire to CD, collect my group, and then port them all there.  This of course was back when there was always people running CD and hanging out around there.  May not be an option now.

There are also mustering horns at the CD and Uru camp fires, so if you know someone else that can get there, or is bound there, they can summon you right to the gate.

Haudh Icarith.  I like spending some time in the antechamber and two wings just inside since I get some useful Scholar stuff.  Trouble is that I don't have any friends and the straight shot down the middle has a nasty barghest, and further back, nasty pairs of wights.  I seem to be able to get Cardolan trinkets from the mobs up front, so ... what's the appeal?  Some quest chain given out in the Bree hunter hall?

Pretty much. Quests for the major mobs, and a handful of deeds. We should get a pile of people in there some weekend to crank stuff out.

Also, every time I see this thread I think 'A Man, A Plan, A Canal... Forochel!' and I have no idea why.

Update: I was able to ALMOST solo it as a level 47 champion tonight. I actually did all the escort stuff fine, the problem was fighting level 52 Moridith at the end, I just couldn't hit enough with a 5 level deficit. I can see why it would be a problem for (any?) other class though, I could just spam my AE stuff to keep the mobs off of the escort NPC. I'm not sure what others have in the way of multi-target stuff. I would think a guardian should be able to grab the aggro OK though, the NPC has like 10,000 hp so its not like she's just instantly melting.

A couple more levels so I can reliably hit the end boss and it should be fine, I had it down to about 60% this try.
