So, for as much as a techie as I am, I only just got my first flash drive. I got This.I realized I dont really know anything about them. I was planning on filling it with apps to help with when I go on location for computer repair type stuff. Does anyone have any tips and or advice on flash drives or apps I should download? I am currently downloading PortableApp Suite. I also got PuTTY and a few other ones. I also was planning on DLing a bunch of Mac specific ones too. I made folders on my flash drive, one for Mac applications and another for PC apps, since I do repairs on both. How am I doing so far?

I always keep a copy of the malware bytes installer on my thumb drive. its been remarkably good at getting viruses extricated (have to run it a few times to get it all out sometimes). This is always assuming that the infected machine either A) does not spread via thumb drive or B) the virus has been neutralized but the machine still needs registry fixes, etc.
Can't hurt to have a copy of ATF Cleaner and CCleaner too. These are best on Windows XP. CCleaner works on Vista and Win7, but ATF is kinda crude and will only play well with XP.

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I got CCleaner, and also Malware Bytes.
The thing Im wondering now, is how best to protect my drive? I see people recommend TrueCrypt. Anyone have any experience putting security on your drive?

Can you put a Bart PE on a flash drive and boot from it? Also, ghost and a good partition program.

There is only one for windows, and that one is Hiren's. RIP is decent for linux.

Hiren's looks awsome. I can't, however, for the life of me, find the download link.

That's because it isn't, strictly speaking, legal. Try your favorite torrent sites.
