Has anyone heard much about this yet? Its up for pre-order on Steam now. It looks a bit like Fallout meets STALKER. I'll admit I have a soft spot for anything coming out of Russia for various personal and professional reasons, so I may have more interest in this than the average gamer, but it looks like it might actually be pretty decent. http://www.metro2033game.com/en |

I've seen the game mentioned on and off, in the usual preview manner, but it didn't stand out to me so far. Shooter-wise, it looks somehow generic, and the models/environments were not too outsanding. Let's hope it turns out cool. According to Wikipedia, it is based on a russian book by the same name, and the programmers are guys who worked on the original STALKER engine but split from GSC before the release of the first STALKER game ( source). |

Game is out in Europe and has gotten very good reviews so far. They have a promotion running on the german/austrian Amazon sites where you enter MTRO2O33 at checkout for a €20 discount, bringing the game price down to €18,99. Apparently limited supply too, and the code was leaked somehow, but it worked with my order. I ordered a copy, will post how it plays.

Damnit, pre-purchased it just a few minutes ago (to get the combo deal with Red Faction), now reading I essentially purchased this for 30 Euros too much.
Well, can't change that now. Hope Red Faction is worth the additional cost.

I saw this at Best Buy last night and picked up the box. On the back, one of the bulletpoint features was, "Witness the everyday horrors of a broken society living in constant fear."
I put it down and moved on, because, wow, nothing says fun game to me like banal horrors and constant fear. Let me at that Afghani tribesman simulator.

It really shows its connection to Stalker. I like it, but then I'm a sucker for postapocalyptic societies. The Fallout meets Stalker part is misleading though. No RPG elements whatsoever. They don't even have an inventory.

Incredibly atmospheric, and fun scripted events. It also has the coolest in-game journal I have ever seen. Charging your flashlight or pumping your pneumatic gun uses the controller in interesting ways but gets annoying after repeated use although its not strictly necessary to do these things since it's more of a bonus when you do.
The biggest issue is the shooting. It's awkward and the guns/bullets give no good feedback or impact which is a problem for an FPS.
