Has anyone had any experience with this? A buddy is new to EVE and isn't really interested in 0.0 while he learns the game but does want to get involved in pvp. I was thinking the FW stuff may be the right direction but I don't know anything about it really - it didn't exist when I quit EVE and since I've been back I've been in LOVEU. Is the FW pubbie militia stuff active? Any suggestions/comments?

Friend of mine was involved in it and he says its pretty much dead. The Caldari completely crushed the Gallante within weeks and the Ammar Minmatar war is effectively over with the minmatar winning. And theres no way to reset it, unless you want the Caldari effortlessly crushing the Gallante again.

Yeah cool, that's kind of what i gathered looking at the dotlan maps of the FW space. Too bad, it's a good idea for total newbies. I think I'll direct him to check out EVE-U and then perhaps Red vs. Blue.

Yes, the Caldari absolutely steamrolled the Gallente.  You should have seen the size of their Caracal fleets right at the beginning!

The battle for the conquerable space may be over but there is still a lot of action going on.
It's a reportedly a better way to get 1 vs 1's and small gang warfare going than roaming lowsec or 0.0.
I don't do it myself because I really don't want to tank my standings but if you don't give a crap about not being able to enter half the galaxy then joining a FW corp should be an easy way to have some pvp fun.

That's so not what happened.

The complete Caldari victory - http://www.massively.com/2009/12/06/eve-evolved-the-faction-warfare-mission-debacle/ - only occurred after more than a year, and it was as a result of an exploit involving cloaked small ships in bunkers.

The Minmatar may have swept to victory but if so it was very recent and a radical turnaround as the Amarr had managed to regain a dominant position in Q3/Q4 last year when I was last aware of what was up - https://www.kugutsumen.com/showthread.php?5278-The-Official-EVE-RP-Fags-Thread-((All-replies-in-this-thread-should-be-in-character))

Faction warfare is shit.  You have to contend with spies in your faction, npc corp alts remote repping enemies and of course gate guns to shoot you for daring to attack the real violators.  Add to that the plexes which get farmed after downtime (last I checked) and gates which will only allow certain classes of ships into the action.  Sure, it is great to have your inty and roam around shooting the enemy, right up till you are at a gate and facing off against pirates or some non official FW crew.  Add to that the fact it matters for NOTHING.  The space does not actually change hands, nothing really changes at all.  The stations are the same, the items are the same, so who cares?  To spice it up and give you a reason for WoW like faction grinding they toss out titles and ship rewards you cannot get elsewhere.  So what?  It does not change the game.  It does not get written into the history.  It does not even get mentioned.  Nothing you do matters in EVE.  You may as well be playing some FPS arena capture the flag match (wait, some of those actually can change.  Nevermind).  As it stands FW is spit in the face of the people who offered feedback and beta tested the crap only to have the rug pulled out when it came to results.
