 awesome, for real

Not a bad opening night for laughing at the freakshows. None of the "good" contestants who made it through were very memorable though.

They should have given Victoria Beckham some stock lines to read after each performance. She was a DUD for a judge. I kinda miss Paula....

Stop being part of the problem and quit watching it.

It is. I mean, you wouldn't want to mix up the different Top Chef seasons together now would you?

I knew you were going to mention Top Chef. NEVER COMPARE THE TWO. PROFESSIONALS VS AMATEURS. Now Hell's Kitchen would've been an ok comparison, but that's trash, and it doesn't get more than one thread. awesome, for real

Edit: Mostly, I just think Idol shows are a fucking blight on humanity.

Actually AI is no longer about amateurs. More and more finalists have had professional singing/recording experience.

No it doesn't. I don't follow it as closely as I used to because of this. Season 7 was the turning point for me as 5 of the Top 12 Finalists had recorded albums prior to being on AI and a 6th person won $100K for winning Star Search.

I had to watch parts of it just because I was curious, I couldn't make it through the whole bit. What is wrong with you people? Its like the collective IQ here just dropped 50 points.

Of course! I'm not one to despise things without knowing why. While the idea sounds ridiculous for a TV format, the execution could have saved it. Alas, it didn't.

I think I'll watch Dead Set again and wish it was a documentary!  awesome, for real

American Idol is shit, most of the singers will produce forgettable shit that is forced on them by the producers then flame out or just fade away and every one of you men who watch it are little girls. RAR!

I've watched it for nine seasons and couldn't name a single recording anyone who went through the show ever made. It's funny reality TV. If they sell some singles to a bunch of teenagers afterward so much the better.

My inner little girl is missing Paula though...

You've never heard Home (Daughtry) or Jesus, Take the Wheel (Carrie Underwood)?

Chris Daughtry's debut album was the fastest debut Rock album of the current era (i.e. tracked by Soundscan).

Carrie's debut album was the fastest selling debut Country album with over 7 million copies sold.

Kelly Clarkson (season 1 winner) has sold over 23 million albums worldwide.

I'm sure I have heard them on the radio, and know about the success they have had, I just couldn't name a single. My point is, I'm not really the target audience for the show but enjoy it as a show anyway.

Idol, Survivor, Dexter, English Premier League matches and NFL Football are the only "must-see" TV I really watch.
