A female friend of mine is looking to get one of these and despite my extreme knowledge of most gadgets I am almost clueless on whats state-of-the-art, or even run of the mill, in GPS (though I could do a pretty good 15 minutes on how and why it works).

Anyone have some resources they wish to share or would like to show thier incredible and in depth knowledge of automobile gps systems?

One of the guys at work bought and uses this and he loves it.  Buying the maps kinda sucks though.

The mag I work for recently did a test of PDAs with GPS. The conclusion was, that while cheap(ish) all the solutions tested had their very own quirks.
So if you can afford it, you should go for one of the dedicated devices. The TomTomGO is actually getting some good reviews even though is cheaper than the rest.

All this is based on others experience, I don't even have a drivers license.

I would like to discuss this more with you, but I'm not allowed to post in Politics anymore.
