I  recently moved outside Ann Arbor (, Michigan ) and have been without internet other than tether mode on my phone sense.  After battling with the usual internet providers I've determined I going to have to go with satellite and with be setting up an installation appointment after the holiday so it should be long before I'm back in-game.

Sounds like I missed alot of action.

You're going to be disappointed.  Like "Why didn't I just get dialup?" disappointed.  Satellite latency is really awful.

It may not be as terrible as dialup but Satellite connections are not worth the premium.

You get used to it for things like surfing or chatting but you can't game over satellite without perpentual lag and rubberbanding.

I heard Washtenaw county has some sort of wireless connection, or they were looking into putting it in. Might wanna look into it.

Or look into radio-relay to somebody who does have broadband.  Not that hard to hack together a cheap solution out of off-the-shelf hardware, 2-inch pipe, and plastic storage totes.  Expensive part is solar panels, if you can't find a power source.  I have an uncle I visited 6-7 years ago who lived 5 miles from the trunk, and the setup I put together for him is still working fine except for a couple of times he had to re-align a cantenna after heavy wind (I ran it down the train tracks, leached their signalling power, and slapped "EPA MONITORING EQUIPMENT, DO NOT TAMPER, SEVERE PENALTIES" stickers on the boxes).

I wasn't thrilled at all about the prospects of satellite from the start and wondered how eve would fair.  700ms pings didn't seem to be too bad but that is a best case scenario.   I knew Eve's playability was going to be up in the air on it.

One option I came across was an unlimited cellular card and it's latency is about 100ms.  Not to bad; not as good a cable.
Washtenaw wireless was my second thought after Comcast but it looks like we're just out of range.

Radio-relay looks like the solution as my finance was talking to a relative after dinner tonight and he just happened to know a guy that runs a point-to-point relay service and we happen to be in range of his tower at the nearby gravel pit.  As well as the price, setup should be pretty painless as we already have a TV antenna tower.

I'll be able to find out more next week.

MahrinSkel, the stickers are classic.
