Attached is a ZIP file with the files needed to install on Windows XP/Vista the color calibration file* I created for my HP 2709m. YMMV.

Download and unzip and read the README.txt file for installation instructions. The Windows Vista install instructions have not been tested.

Also on the monitor itself go to the Color menu and set the color setting to 6500K if it isn't already.

* Created using the Eye-One Display 2 colorimeter and Eye-One Match 3 software.

Edit: okay there's a glitch in the setup procedure where the profile isn't "sticking" and you have to keep reselecting it. I'll update things once I figure out what's going on.

Okay things have gotten a bit more complicated. I'm getting some inconsistent behavior but I did find a solution to the profile not staying set problem.

Try the instructions as written in the ZIP file. If the profile doesn't stay set between reboots, download and install the Eye-One Match 3 software:

http://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?ID=788&Action=support&SoftwareID=724

Then see if the profile stays set between reboots.

The Eye-One Match 3 install will install 2 programs that run at startup (you can see them by running msconfig in the Run dialog). Feel free to turn off/delete the "ProfileReminder" program but leave the "Logo Calibration Loader" alone -- that's the one that will reload the profile for you after a reboot. These programs don't stay resident in memory so you don't have to worry about them taking up RAM or anything (they just run at startup, do their thing, and then quit).

On two of my machines I removed the software to test the install procedure I wrote up and on one machine it works fine without the software but on the 2nd one it needs it to work between reboots, possibly because the 2nd machine is a laptop in a dual monitor setup while the other machine that works without the software is just a single display.

Out of interest what are you calibrating this for? The only experience I have with calibration software (I've got the cheap and basic huey) can give slightly different profiles depending on what you intend to use it for.

Anyways I'll try this out later if my copy of CS4 arrives  awesome, for real.

I'll be home in the morning and will try this out, hopefully it works on W7.  I'm also running dual displays, but I'm more concerned with the colors being right on the HP than my fhd2400 - I just use it as a secondary window so I can have maps/forums/etc open when playing eve or in a chatroom while surfing.

Oh yeah duh. I'll update the first post but this is meant for color proofing on the display itself (though of course if you try to use it it won't be as accurate as your monitor will be different than mine) rather trying to match the color profile of an another output device like a printer and you need to have your monitor set to the color temperature of 6500K.
