The name of Tom Waits' new studio album was leaked and so he released this video commenting on the situation after his "private listening party" is interrupted by the unfortunate news.  Also, the first single is available for purchase and download.  It has a Bone Machine vibe, but is as fresh as ever.

Love the Tom Waits video. The music does have a Bone Machine vibe, which is all of a good thing.

High on Fire is really not that heavy. I liked that too. I'll have to Spotify me some of that.

Today's download deal is the amazing Girlschool.  Heart Kelly Johnson's monster lead chops, just great rock.

It still pisses me off that when I try and talk to people about this band they just stare blankly like they've no clue that there was a "girl" band out there that wasn't the Runaways (which people really only know about now because of the recent movie).

New VNV Nation stuff up on Soundcloud in advance of the new album in September. Back to the floorstorming Empires vibe but with some of the melodic strains from the newer albums.

Noticed that they are playing Stuttgart a week after I go to the US which is typical - every time they play near me I have a trip to the US booked at the same time. Conversely they generally play Denver (more-or-less where I will be when I'm in the US) either a few days before or after I am there.

Also Joan Jett doing I Wanna be Your Dog is one of my favourite moments in rock.

Normally Touhou project music isn't that special, and I don't usually like this type of music anyway, but somehow I liked both this music and video a lot:

I think you missed the "recently". Or you define "recently" differently.

'Reality' is the only word in the language that should always be used in quotes.

Mastodon is finally releasing a new album and there's some promo songs on Youtube:

edit: Curl of the Burl totally needs Chris Cornell.

edit2: Scott Kelly and Mastodon is always so good. Spectrelight is by far the best of the three.

New Mastodon...can't wait. Fiancee...not so much. The Necrosis guy isn't too bad on that track, normally I think the band is better without him. He fit good on the last disc as the Emperor, though...tortured undead vocals, heh.

Yeah, notice the "recently". But if we're talking about all time, Noir, .hack//sign and Hellsing had absolutely awesome soundtracks, and those you mentioned had great ones too.

Looks like REM is breaking up.  I can't imagine that too many people around here will care that much given the musical tastes I see, but they were certainly icons.  They should have done this a few albums ago, but that's okay I suppose.
