That's the guitarist from King Crimson. I'd imagine that's why it showed up.

Singing this tune to the fiancee, but she's a filthy heathen so I had to find it and play it for her. And it was even FUNKIER than I remembered, so here you go. For the younger folks, this is how we learned stuff in the 70s.

Holy carp so over the weekend I learned about the majesty that is Diablo Swing Orchestra. This is my brand of crazy. Fiancee hates it (mostly), it reminds her of when I put my music on random.

I know this isn't particularly fresh, and anyone who is already a fan of Lamb of God knows this song, but as a recently converted fan, this premier track on their latest album is fantastic on so many levels. Even their story telling in the video is better than 99% of stuff out there in my not so humble opinion.

Also, in case someone still doesn't know of these folks, Mushroomhead's latest hit is also a total earworm.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I mean, most of their music doesn't work for me, though I can see why it's good. The vocals and genre are things I get picky about.

But that track and a few others are absolute slammers.

Was talking to someone about Iain Banks and ended up finding this album by the Ian Gillan Band, Clear Air Turbulence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQR9BY2nVyY&list=PL8a8cutYP7frTI3wmkzJXPhg67P9e6n8C

I'm not a fan of synths but holy crap is there some amazing music on there. Not at all what I expected when I saw Gillan's name!

Mastodon - Teardrinker  Latest video from their upcoming album.  Really liking what I've heard so far.

I love it, except the solo section. I keep hoping their continual progression as a band will lead to them figuring out how to jettison those clunky, forced sections that push you out of the zone. There's almost a sense of relief when they come back to the main riff, like when the klaxon of a required monthly emergency broadcast test ends and your movie resumes. That's not a good thing, imo.

The rest of it is just beautiful (and the solos themselves are awesome, technically speaking).

Hyper pop... a new (for me) genre I stumbled across while listening to Adam Nealy and Rick Beato talk. Specifically 100 Gecs.

I think I have been waiting half my life for someone to make this kind of music. It is like bubblegum Atari Teenage Riot meets early 2000 Happy Hardcore plus the Sleigh Bells.  Probably not everyones cup of tea but I am digging it:

I needed something to listen to at work today to help me focus and I've fallen down a BTW YouTube rabbit hole.

No, I'm not linking anything.  It's K-Pop and I enjoy it (same as I enjoy J-Pop/J-Rock) but not entirely sure why they have such a rabid fanbase.

saw Vio-Lence the other week in Oakland.  Old school Bay Area Thrash.  They were good, great to see them still kicking.  The opener Exmortus ripped and they played a metal version of Boston's Foreplay.

They slipped in mid-set in the middle of a song and old timers like me lost our minds.

This is not the show I was at, but to give you some idea:

New Metallica track sounds pretty rote. With bands like RHCP getting two albums of bangers out of the pandemic, I hope the rest of the tracks stand up. I had thought they'd turned a corner with Hardwired, which is mostly awesome. Maybe not.

Also, I've had my anti-cookie beliefs blunted SLIGHTLY by Opeth lately. I've been jamming a couple tunes off Blackwater Park (title track and Bleak). Still hate the cookie, but at least they've got a lot more going on (and honestly it kinda fades into the background while I'm playing, like bad DJ scratching or something).

Also also, found some Rocksmith charts for Persona 5, Last Surprise is now in the rotation...

As I stated on Discord, it's amazing that they managed to rip off both Judas Priest and themselves in the same goddamn song, and it all sounded so lazy. The solo felt like at least 2 or 3 riffs from Hammett's old solos were smashed together.

My most recent musical discovery is The Fire.
