Mastodon released a song from their forthcoming concept album. Sounds like I'll once again be spending evenings just sitting there with my headphones on. Which will be exactly what is needed.

Apparently the web version of the Grammys didn't have the mic issues...and I actually enjoyed hearing Ga with Metallica quite a bit.

I can't believe I've missed Ghost (or Ghost B.C. sometimes), Sweden's satanic answer to Lordi and Blue Oyster Cult.

Their actual music videos are awesome, but I really like the sound on their Music Feeds live thingy:

The au naturel version also makes an appearance in this video, as satan I think (NSFW): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkBt7yLXyDk

I really really dig their schtick, a pulpy rendition of christian mythos.

Thanks for the band tip, I was on a sludge/stoner roll before stumbling onto Ghost.

The Bong Druid of Mammoth Weed Mountain is another good one, and has the extra bonus of having the best name ever.

Amazon came through with the autorip, yay.

I'm pretty much obsessed with the Mastodon. It's sooo good. Not perfect, but really amazing and inspirational. Shifting my expectations to not expect every album to be CtS has really opened my ears to their later stuff. Only time I get bummed out is when they're too shouty/growly. I like singing, and they have several good singers, so blah.

Hmm, I will have to have a youtube listen before purchasing, cuz their promoted singles aren't grabbing me near as much as their older stuff. Like not even in the same ballpark. Then again, I tend to like many of the less popular tracks, such as "Chimes at Midnight" and "Oblivion" rather than say, for example "Curl of the Burl" and "High Road"

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

My local shop did Mastodon a solid: https://twitter.com/mastodonmusic/status/849797340303052803

To the right is a recreation of the Mother Love Bone mural that Jeff Ament did, and to the right of that is the BadMotorFinger reissue cover art done 10' tall.

Show Yourself is the only rock track on it. Otherwise it's a nice mix of their growth as a band. My main complaint is probably that guest vocalist dude. The guys in the band just killed the vocals on this album, so good and some great harmony work. I love how they've grown as a vocal unit. Then this dude just comes and blarfs all over things.

It worked a little on CtS, but felt out of place with the growth on this one.

And for me, it's resonating with where I am in life. Both the shit I've gone through the last few years with losing people and near losses; and also the inspiration and strength that's given me to start growing into the person I want to be.

So many great moments as I listen through (it's on repeat in the truck for a while). Today was Brent Hinds on Jaguar God. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvSPWG_mE4c

The new Father John Misty is really good, but goddamn it sounds like Don McLean sings the post-apocalypse.

fairly NSFW album art used for the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKrSYgirAhc

Lots of Trump imagery when he gets to the clowns and goons lyrics, heh. He even makes a good stab at himself in the video.

Gotta remember to visit this thread from time to time...never heard of Ghost before, kind of digging it.

And speaking of Swedish bands, any of you heard Stone Division?  Only one album released and it is a bit formulaic and samey, but I like it anyway.

From songcontest:

My personal favourite. The song itself is pleasant but forgettable, the singers voice stands out.

Blanche - City Lights (Belgium)

And the contests winner, a jazz ballad:

Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois (Portugal)

I'm a bit weird in that I dislike most "classic" metal, but am otherwise obsessed with some of the newer metal genres...not even sure what to call them most of the time.  Metalcore?  NuMetal?  Alternative Metal?  I wish I had a better musical vocabulary.

Speaking of I'm-not-sure-what-to-call-it, I am also really digging that Huntress album someone mentioned earlier in the thread.  Tell me they're not Swedish.

Most of my friends give me a "wtf" face when I suggest this type of stuff.   I still blast crazy metal, but this type of music just fills a void I hadn't realized I needed filling until I heard it.
