I was impressed that I was disappointed by new Limp Bizkit. I didn't know that was possible. It's really quite a masterpiece of crappy music.

It was like four different songs over the 5 plus minutes.  None of them were good.

Oh look, Fred Durst wants to be Suicidal Tendencies without any of the lyrical or vocal talent whatsoever. Fuck that twat.

Guess I wasn't the only one that thought it was a shitty rip-off of Suicidal Tendencies.

Why is it that we go for months with no concert announcements and then in a week everyone announces dates? And I ended up with 3 concerts in a week, two of them back to back.

Although I find hitting Primus on Friday and Postmodern Jukebox on Saturday an awesome weekend (and then Motley Crue the following Wednesday).

So tempted to stretch the budget to go see Priest in Rochester, they're really strong right now.

If you haven't listened to it, the new Priest album is pretty damn good.

I did hear a couple teaser tracks. Thus the temptation to go see them. The new kid on guitar has lit a fire under their asses, it's awesome.

I only poke my head into this thread every once in a while since I don't listen to music as much as I used to, but Limp Bizkit has never been good. Just universally trash. Merely a hair shy of being the main attraction in juggalo culture.

Meh, I had fun with their stuff up until right after Chocolate Starfish. Not anything ground breaking but not complete and total shit. Though come to think of it, I haven't listened to any of even the stuff I consider listenable for probably a decade so...

As a teenager their early shit was even unacceptably awful, and my taste in music was suspect. I can forgive you though since you live on the fucking moon.

I guess Sky does also though.

So that explains all that.

the thing that frustrates me with Limp Bizkit (however you spell that).... is that Wes Borland is such a monster of a guitarist... he is a beast, yet he ties himself to this godawful project

Any of the groups or venues attached to a festival? If so then the negotiations may have finalized so they can decide where to tour now.

I agree with Chad Bennington's statement that festivals are, ironically, killing live music.  Just not for the same reason. Grouping all these bands together is awesome once in a while but not all the time. It keeps ticket prices too high and time investment ridiculous. "Can't tour within 50/100/200 miles of festival" riders are also limiting the availability of groups to do local shows at more affordable prices.

In other news, I'm old.  awesome, for real

Yes. Though his solo album was a pile of shit, too. And really, the bassist and drummer kick ass, as well. Dump Durst and the DJ and I think they have a good band.

Merusk, I agree about festivals. And I fully embrace my 'I'm old' bias because festivals are a giant pain in the ass. I don't want to spend a weekend with a bunch of high kids with limited and expensive shitty food and drink options so I can stand around and barely see a stage where my favorite act gets a truncated set. Stuff like Primus doing theaters with two sets for a 3 hour show is where it's at.

But yeah, the effect of both riders (which also applies to some touring centers, 'won't tour within x of NYC/Buffalo') and limitations on tour scheduling sucks, regardless of bias. And since I'm on the venn overlap of two touring centers we've been getting very little the last few years. I've come to love the bands that are doing casino tours, as that seems to sidestep some of those restrictions. Casino tickets are cheap, I can pick the seats at the box office window, and they have money falling out of their shorts so the services are amazing and it's a superior concert-going experience to all but the better theaters.

Once you're used to getting good service in a nice venue where the sound is perfectly tuned to the room, standing around in a dusty field while immature douchebags scream 'show us your tits' just doesn't quite work anymore.

Festival concerts are for people young enough to still think getting drunk or stoned in public is awesome. It's not for people who want to HEAR music.

Edited, because my sister and brother in law go to Bunbury every year since it's right downtown.  She goes for the bands she can't hear anywhere else he goes to drink with buddies.

That's why she's awesome.

Getting back into the music scene a bit. It's weird knowing the movers and shakers but no fans and hardly any musicians. Tough to socialize because the dudes I know are always bombarded by people. And most of my old musician friends have kids, so they show up, play, and leave. I'll probably have to get into a band just to hang out with sane musicians :p

I'm also quickly minded of why I quit trying to play original music. Lots of guys who play well, but very few that have a creative bone in their body. I ditched one venue because goddammit I can't listen to 70s classic rock overplayed nonsense any more. I do not want to rock and roll all night and party every day please stop singing that song for the love of god.

But one of the big guys said it best, original music doesn't pay in a local scene. Everyone wants to hear the stupid shit they listened to on the radio in high school and/or college.

1) No such thing.
2) 100% correct. My co-worker is in a popular punk band... in Europe. Hardly any presence in Cincinnati, whose biggest band in the last 20 years was the Afghan Whigs.

Did I BW myself?  OOPS!!  It's probably because I actually just got around to buying it.  For some reason, I blame my brother in law who used to be a pro bass player a million years ago, I've been listening to a bit of Camper van Beethoven the last day or so.  So here!

Sorry about the stupid lyrics.

Hm. So I went to a friend's little solo acoustic gig. He stepped away for a break and I snuck onto his guitar and started playing. The crowd was wicked into it and my friend came running back in and turned the PA back on and told me to play in between his sets. So I kind of backed into my first gig in 6 years or so. That was weird.

Die Antwoord will be at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia on September 5.  It's an all age show.  I guess it's safe to assume that most people in Philly won't understand a word they say.  I'm pretty sure everyone will be stoned, including the band, which is good because they might not notice the horribly awful sounding Philadelphia (actually, PA in general) accent.

Also, this is a very, very good album.  Thanks for sharing.  When I started digging deeper I found some others I like, too.  Like Miami Nights 1984 and Le Matos.  I'd heard of Lazerhawk but didn't realize he was part of a genre.

Thanks, man!  I found a bunch of new cool music thanks to you.

I love the stuff you stumble across on the Internet. I never realized Mr Bungle covered one of my favorite Dr Demento Show tunes by T-Bone something or other, the Existential Blues. With a bonus bit of Pencil-Necked Geek thrown in for good measure.

Also, FNM is going into the studio to record a new album. Mike Patton Day!

No, the lineup is the same as the last studio album, Album of the Year (which I thought was a great album).

I hope I don't have to travel too far to catch a show when they tour...because it's mandatory to catch this tour imo. If they survive to tour.

I've also picked up the new Babymetal album, a completely bonkers j-pop/metal fusion act, although watching the vids leaves me with the sneaking suspicion I might end up on a register somewhere I love the music itself.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=nDqaTXqCN-Q&feature=kp

This crossed my path and it blew my socks off. So I searched to see if anyone else had posted about Babymetal.

I posted about Babymetal back in freaking February 2012 and linked to most of their vids as they came out in the Useless Video thread.  awesome, for real

I uninronically really dig them and unfortunately missed them when they came though town opening for Lady Gaga (?!) because they weren't advertised AT ALL.

I've somewhat become obsessed with the song "Since You've Been Gone" and think it is one of the better rock songs ever written. Love both Rainbow and Alcatrazz's versions (same singer, but Alcatrazz has Yngwie on guitar) and Brian May does a decent version. Not sure why I am so hooked on it.

I love Butthole Surfers.  I've lost count how many times I've seen them live... YEARS ago.  Anyway, here's something probably no ones has heard of but I really really like it.  I, too, wouldn't survive without my middle fingers.

  Lotsa fuck yous.

Here's a band I used to work with that I absolutely adored.  Twice, many years ago, I saw them and Butthole Surfers in the same week.  Pleasure not work)  Much happiness ensued.

The first time I read this, I took it to mean that you gave blow jobs to the entire band.  Then I re-read it...and still come to the same conclusion (pun intended!).

I'm willing to accept that you may have meant something else entirely.
