You'll notice I have no interest in returning to music as a career. I've had a few offers over the years. Bzzzt.

Ace's problems are exactly as HaemishM says.  Guy had a major problem with the bottle and other intoxicants during the glory days and the years after when he could have ridden the name to fame with a few albums of his own.  He also didn't get much in the way of songwriting credits on the Kiss albums, which is where the money is.  As stated, easily 90% of rock stars\musicians out there are in this boat and have this problem.  I'll leave the Gene & New Guys With Old Makeup debate for another day...

I love Slayer but I've always gotten the impression Kerry King is a MAJOR douche. A "my way or the highway" kind of guy. And it isn't like this is the first time Lombardo has left.
Nope.  Kerry is VERY much an outspoken "this is how it is, take it or leave it" kind of guy.  Some people like that, others not so much.  I've tried to focus on the music more than anything because I would probably not get along with him in person.

As far as Priest goes, Halford and the band both had their own split problems during the 90's.  Rob wanted to do different types of music and break the leather mold, the rest of the guys didn't because it was still paying well (Rob's interviews were kind of mean spirited back then).  Fortunately they buried the hatchet and got back together and made some really great records.  They did kind of hose over the new guy, but he probably should have been smart to realize that he was merely a hired gun until the Metal God came back anyways.  I'm still not sure what to think of the KK split.  I mean the band said they were going to retire after the album\tour so why not just wait it out for a few more years of touring, get paid, and retire without the drama?  Must have meant something else was going on.  Their press agent is good at keeping the lid on things, unlike other drama infused bands out there.

He was saying they should go into creative mode for another Core => Purple advancement in sound; as well as the fact that he didn't want to be a nostalgia act playing a greatest hits set list.

So either that or drugs.

The album DOES feel right in place with Heroes era. Definitely a return to form.

Video is awesome. Its Bowie, what did you expect?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Yes, and I often have that reaction to Bowie videos. I didn't say I didn't like it.

I find it funny that I'm not one of the 'metal guys'.  why so serious?

I know you are a "metal guy" but I was pretty damn confident that the vocals for both those bands would be a No Go for you

Heart Machine Head.  Robb Flynn is sexier than sex, too.  But they sacked Adam.  Why?  Why is everyone sacking everyone?  Half the people being sacked founded the bands, too.  It's like a year of opposite days or something.

The new Johnny Marr album is pretty darn good.

EDIT -- To avoid a one-liner, I'm really liking the album. It's a bit less cheese than the first Sugar album (yes, I am comparing him to Bob Mould) and has some decent range as far as the songs are concerned. "Upstarts" and "Lockdown" are really solid tracks.

I just saw The Stone Roses (upcoming Coachella headliners) twice in four days -- their own gig, then a festival.

They were more amazing than when I saw them in 1995. Ian Brown (singer) sang shockingly flat for the first half of the first gig, but he was much better at the festival. John Squire, Mani and Reni (guitar, bass, drums) are outrageously great. Fool's Gold, which they didn't do in 1995, was the biggest highlight this time,

Having never heard of Macklemore x Ryan Lewis til Thrift Shop, I've become a big fan of their music.  Really good to see an independent musician really getting his time to shine.

Sigur Ros performed on TV for the first time in 10 years. It was big.

They have also turned it up to eleven on their new track.

Bummed they lost a person, but I really, really like this song's direction.  They do a very good job of changing their sounds around every other album to keep things fresh.  Valatari was an album that I didn't have feelings for one way or the other, then one day after a few weeks it just hit me how awesome it is.

Holy fuck, after a few plays I consist entirely of Brennisteinn. I'm going to loop it all day.

EDIT: I was sure I'd heard it before - they played it at the gig I saw in November last year.
