Here's a cool pictorial of Freddie Mercury over the years.  I never used to like Queen, but I find myself liking them more and more as I get older.  I bought one of their live DVDs and it really is fucking awesome.

Slash has to be laughing his ass off touring with Myles Kennedy knocking these songs out.

Got tickets to see The Sword in December.  awesome!  Really like their new album; makes me want to join a combo D&D homebrewing group.

Your friend is a total animal. I approve. And as a former bassist of somewhat note, that's a big compliment and whatnot. I also approve of the beard.

Only thing I'd ding them for is the noise at the front of the piece, you don't want to kick off your track (or album) by making people turn down the sound effect.

Do they not have a singer? I kept waiting to not like it, since it WAS a metal post by Mr BW :) I listened to some of their other stuff, really strong jams. I dig it.

Drummer could tighten up live, he really gets off the beat in this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eV7zkVsVfNk Can't tell if it was a bad monitor or something, but he didn't try to look at the other dudes and recover. In my band he would've been in the dog house hard for that. And I was the 'nice' one in the band.

I do not believe they have a singer. To be clear, he moved a good long while ago, but I pay attention to his activities.

Better no singer than to have someone muck up that awesome jam with crap vocals. Good call.

Word.  More instrumental metal bands with less growling and screaming please.  But then the musically dis-inclined would complain...  Hearing a band with an awesome intro and 45-60s of great material that is then ruined because Cookie Monster comes in for his part is sad.

Just got back from seeing The Sword, really great show.  Well worth $15.

The opening acts really played on the whole "game of thrones" concept, though.  "This song is how the Freys really fucked over the Starks, man!"  Ugh.

Holy shit, just got Buddy Guy's new Live at Legends CD. It's burnin'. As good as the times I've seen him, and he was 70 the first time I saw him live. The only thing missing is all the great facial expressions and hamming he does on stage (which is a lot of fun).

Actually, I sent my fiancee an 'FYI' email about its release, as she's the music librarian (and also hint hint). She hands me a wrapped CD :) I guess she was on that one.

If you like blues or red hot guitar playing in the vein of SRV/Hendrix (which is really the vein of BG), you should grab this one.

Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage, full album... simply amazing if you don't already have it.

So Jason Newsted is finally starting his own band.  New song here.  Nothing super awesome, but better than anything Metallica has put out in years imo.

Finally?  He's bounced around more projects than a groupie with ADD since leaving Metallica. Doing that awful 'Rockstar Supernova' show kind of soured me on giving a damn about the guy.

I disagree with the bit about Metallica, but I really like the St Anger album.

Newsted's tune is pretty meh metal, kind of like a Lemmy without balls. But I've been a disliker of Newsted for a long damned time (though I did like the first garage days album he was on). Comes from being a fanatic Cliff fanatic, aspiring to the amazing compositions and badassery of the Cliff then moving to Newsted who was just a competent bassist. Like Geddy Lee being replaced by Newsted.

The mix on St. Anger alone is enough to drive me batshit insane. All the levels and tones just sound wrong, but especially the drums.

I pretty much don't listen to anything Metallica past Justice.  The Black album isn't bad, but I wasn't a huge fan.

I love it, all gnarly garage sounding. There are a few spots I'd change, but overall I love the brutality of the mix, while still having great dynamics.

I'm digging this album by Sulphur Aeon.  Not much cooler than Cthulhu inspired death metal.  However, they hired cookie monster for the vocals.

These guys are a proper rock band, young and new. They rock a festival (I've just been to three) like they've been playing for decades.

Yes.  Although I like Meshuggah, they get a bit too proggie for me.  He did some stuff with Devin Townsend that I like very much, too.  I also have a major crush on Devin Townsend!  (well, my ears do, anyway)  Do you read Metal Hammer?  It sometimes directs you to interesting new bands.  This past issue gives a heads up on some tracks by Phil Anselmo and Warbeast that are being released this month.  HOORAY!  Did I ever tell you that I have a serious crush on Phil Anselmo... and not just my ears.

Enjoyed the bass player in that band.  I may take a listen at some of their other stuff.

It's actually decent, but I want to punch their mixing engineer and producer in the fucking throat. This is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE mix. The vocals are almost lost which makes his cookie monster sound worse than it actually is.

Money Money Money, Kill Kill Kill awesome, for real

something about Yolinda is oddly very attractive.

I have read though that the guy in Die Antwoord is basically South Africa's Sacha Baron Cohen
