IS LOTRO like WoW, EQ1, etc where you can simply copy the game directory to a different HDD partition, etc and still have it work?
What about copying the entire install from one machine to another?
thanks!

Yes and no. The game will run, but patches will fail. You can apply a small registry hack to fix that though.

Urgh..
Basically, I have 3 PCs with the game installed on them, but the patching-up from Moria is so many fucking gigs (and so slow) that it'll hit my monthly download cap.
I'm hoping to copy the directory from my one, soon-to-be-patched version of the game over the other installs on the other PCs. None of them have yet run the game, so there are no saved ini files etc there yet.
Then to do the same to my friend's Laptop. I was just going to copy the whole thing across the network, but if he needs to install it then have the whole patched game copied over (if that will work?)

No, no, an already patched game will work. You can patch on one computer and copy the complete installation, then just run the registry-file on each. Just any future patches need that registry fix to run (the patcher uses that path to find your installation.)

Do you mean that registry hack? And then again for each subsequent patch?
As of right now, I have 2 unpatched installs sitting on 2 PCs, and one patched install on a third PC.
Can I just copy/overwrite the patched version over the unpatched ones? The filepaths on the unpatched ones would be the same, so hopefully would not require anything registry-specific, since the only changes would be Unpatched>Patched.
Or am I horribly confused?

Yes, you can just overwrite it. :)
