Hell yeah...Just picked this up earlier. I almost forgot it was coming out. I've only played a little, but so far it rocks. Good old fashioned shoot-em-up fun.

I'm going to make a new XBL account, so I'll post my new tag later, but if anyone else is playing, post here.

EDIT: Hmm, I didn't realize this at first: Besides the standard online match modes, there's a persistent "Conquest" mode, where you join one of the factions to defend territories and expand across the map.

Basically, we now have a mini-Planetside on XBL.

You should have made a new post Stray. I didn't notice you made the edit until Windup said something. I might pickup XBL (again) and MechAssault this week. Damnit.

Yeah, I was wondering what was up.

Anyways, if anyone's buying this, don't do so without of the intent of playing on XBL (I know this is the "XBL" forum, but I'm just saying). The single player campaign isn't anything worth writing home about. Or writing about here for that matter..

As for Conquest mode: 5 factions, 35 vehicles,  and apparently, no population caps. The populations are low right now though, but I expect (or at least I'm hoping) they'll be much larger in the future...Precisely at the time when people figure out that Halo 2 is a piece of shit. Otherwise, it won't work.

Here's a rundown on the Conquest rules:

Quote
Your House can only attack a planet if you won two planets that are linked to the target planet with trade routes (marked by the lines on the Galaxy Map).

To destroy a planet’s defenses and take it over, a House must win several games on the planet.

Each victory gains the winning House a point on the planet.

Each planet has a minimum number of Planet Points that a House must gain before the planet is conquered.

If the defending House reaches the point total first, all point values are reset and the attackers must try again.

If an attacking House reaches the point total first, the planet changes hands and all point totals are reset.

Being that points are specific to each planet, control can change hands several times. Again, each planet also has a specific game type (Base War, Snatch It!, CTF, etc.) which means that the members of a House will need to be well rounded Mech Warriors. Also, game types require a set number of players, so don’t expect to jump into a Base War match when everyone is asleep and score an easy victory.

Damnit, I had no intentions of picking up this game, but conquest mode may have just sold me.  I spent so much time in the online Battletech game before EA pulled the plug on it.  And this has no sub fee, House Liao for the win.

Stray, can you give us a rundown of how organized/ridiculous conquest games are? I'm on the verge of picking it up, I just need assurance that it's as fun as it seems. The other "review sites" aren't giving it more points based on multiplayer modes.

I'll be picking this up on the 28th via XBOX retail training.

Heh, 3 month job and I'm still getting all sorts of free stuff from MS.

Just wait until you get Intel Chips N Tips training. Top of the line processors and mobos for $200.

Who do you work for atm? I can tell you all about how to abuse their practices.

Edit: All within the realm of legality of course.

I worked for the City about a year ago, I moved on, but I'm still allowed to do the training.

Got me my shiney Triports for $10 shipping.

Heh. Ok? If voting is enough tomorrow we'll probably have persistant f13 ut2k4 anyway.

Sorry, I was in a bit of a hurry. I should have explained more.

There's nothing wrong with the game per se. If you liked MA1, then you'll like 2. Even as a simple deathmatch game, it's better than the first.

There aren't any major problems with Conquest, but it needs a few tweaks. Player matchups aren't well done, few people want to defend...Even trying to play a game with someone on your friends list is a pain in the ass. Needless to say, but it takes a while to even get a fight going. This is probably the one area where Halo 2 is better.

It's still a great game, but I'd wait and see if they patch this or not.

Well, I loved the original MA, so I may have to just pick this up, quirks be damned.

Edit: Just noticed the XBl tag sticky up top, hehe
