Jerry Orbach dead at 69. Jerry was most recognized for his role as detective Lenny Briscoe on Law & Order (IMO, he and Sam Waterston made that series work), he passed away due to prostate cancer. For those who didn't get the title, Orbach also played the disapproving father of Jennifer Grey in the classic chick-flick Dirty Dancing. Bring the noise. Cheers............

Dirty Dancing sucked it, this much is true.
But Orbach made Law & Order worth watching for a long time, so I think he has been forgiven by the great casting agent in the sky.

Actor, singer
b. Oct. 20, 1935 (Bronx, NY) - d. Dec. 28, 2004 (NYC)
A student of acting guru Lee Strasberg, Orbach appeared in several national tours before joining the cast of the long-running revival of Threepenny Opera in 1958. He was the original El Gallo in The Fantasticks (1960) – the Schmidt & Jones Off-Broadway hit in which Orbach introduced "Try to Remember." He made his Broadway musical debut as the embittered puppeteer Paul in Carnival (1961), singing Bob Merrill's "Her Face." Orbach played character roles in several revivals before his Tony-winning performance as Chuck in Promises, Promises (1969), where he introduced the Burt Bacharach hit "I'll Never Fall in Love Again."
As the original Billy Flynn in Chicago (1975), he stopped the show with Kander & Ebb's "All I Care About Is Love" and "Razzle Dazzle." He then created the role of the imperious Julian Marsh in the long running 42nd Street (1980), where his solo rendition of the title song provided a haunting finale. In the years that followed, Orbach worked extensively in television and film. He appeared as a judgmental father in the semi-musical Dirty Dancing (1987), and provided the Chevalier-esque voice of Lumiere in Disney's animated masterpiece Beauty and the Beast (1989). In this role he introduced Ashman & Menken's Academy Award-nominated song "Be Our Guest." From 1992 to 2004, he starred as veteran detective Lennie Briscoe on the NBC drama series Law and Order. While battling prostate cancer, this beloved performer died at age 69. |

Look here, Orbach was a good actor. But any movie that has Patrick Swayze prancing about and saying lines like "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" with a straight face SUCKS CINEMATIC SPHINCTER.
The movie's suck was completely above and outside of anything Orbach had to do with it.
Oh, and Titanic the movie blew monkeys as well.
However, I am quite sad that Orbach is gone.

Just for the record I never said Dirty Dancing was good only that it made a lot of money and because of said money I would have liked to have been involved. No Dirty Dancing wasnt a good movie.
Riggs I know everyone on this forum seems jaded. Thats why I like it. Glad you pointed it out to me.
I am sad he is dead as well he was one hell of an actor.

Jerry Orbach was the man. The announcement that he had prostate cancer came at the beginning of the month, so I'm wondering if they caught it very late, or if they held off on telling the world about it. That sucks. |

Some people watch Star Trek or the X-Files religiously, but I used to never miss an episode of Law & Order. Orbach was cool as shit. So cool that the NYPD treated him like he was the real deal.
I kind of gave up on it when they started killing off the other good characters though. The best cast was with Orbach, Chris Noth, Sam Waterson, and Jill Hennesy.

It's two sister ships also sank, so I kind of doubt it..
RMS Olympic was retired and scrapped in 1935. It actually suffered a 35 feet gash in it's hull and survived proving that the idea behind the 'unsinkable' hull was a good one (which is why ships today use it). HMS Britanic was sunk by either a bomb or a torpedo - something which to this day is still prety hard to safeguard any ship against. Of course the Titanic design did have faults, but mostly the tragedy was caused by human error, misjudgment and bad management. the tradegy of the movie Titanic is that Cameron never did the special edition he suggested in an interview - which would be aimed at all the men, who only suffered through the original to keep girlfriends happy. In this version he would tone down the love story and beef up the actual sinking - adding all the deleted scenes including those on the Carpathia. |

I was in a chinese restaurant the other day when something about the background musak raised my hackles... after listening more intently for a minute, I realised it was a re-tempo'd instrumental version of "My Heart Will Go On". It was almost as scary as the sounds of chinese people singing karyoke in English coming from the party room in the back.
