Looking at the multi monitor stuff looks like Matrox is finished with their multiheaded solutions.

Who needs power savings when you have six monitors?

Since this seems to be the power supply thread, what is the guideline for choosing one? How large a power supply should you have for a standard rig? Standard meaning decent ($200 or so) video card, dvd burner, 1 HD, and such. My current supply is 450W and you all have me paranoid that it's underpowered.

It's more about 12v amperage.
The easy solution is just to buy significantly more power than you need at the time of the build.

It's possible to buy a power supply with a ton of watts, but with the wattage distributed on the wrong rails. Read this

The difference in price on power supplies seems so miniscule that it makes sense to me to get the most power you can get. I bought a 700 Watt unit for 120 bucks or so.

I went for a 700W PSU as well, cost me only 60€. 450W might be enough for a HD4890, but it's awfully close.

AMD has a nifty calculator for PSU size on their website I used to make sure I had lee-way (as the guy at the store was trying to tell me that I might need bigger).
I have a 650watt PSU running am older 140W Phenom (old process), DVD burner, 2x hard drives, and an ATI 4870 (which is quite monstrous) and have had zero issues.
