How often do you get it?  I feel like I'm not eating enough fiber.

Diarrhea is a very serious issue if not treated.  It can manifest from a number of causes and can even be fatal.  If you suffer diarrhea regularly, I suggest you get yourself to a physician.

Seriously?

I don't really get it unless I'm sick. Causes aren't usually as simple as lack of "fiber", but an allergy or having a bug that's kicking your ass.

There are certain consumables that declare war on my GI tract. Unless I am actually sick, it rarely lasts more than a few hours at most.

IBS + lactose intollerance + mild food allergies = FUN.

Been quite healthy lately, however.

If you don't think you're eating enough fiber, then it's pretty easy to rectify that.

This.  Start paying attention to what you ate a few hours before the attack, and see if you notice a trend.  Fixing it might be as simple as avoiding a particular food that doesn't agree with you.

Add Celiac in as another possible one.

I have a lab slip for a celiac disease panel sitting on my desk.  I just hate getting blood drawn.

Fiber increase is more for helping blockage and helping to move things through your system.

Go see a physician.  If you want to try over the counter stuff, try a 2week bout of Activia.

Activia + Benefiber/Metamucil rounds things out pretty well for me, but I've had IBS from stress since I was very little.

BTW, awesome props on the person who used 'rectify' in this thread.

Usually only if I over-indulge in dairy, and usually only liquid milk at that.

Usually only when I've got a bug.  But when I start my diet (500-800 calories a day) I have it for about a week (after meals).

Fuck me; how do you even function on 500 calories per day?

I am confused, are you looking for advice on how to cause your body to have diarrhea?

If so, I would suggest going to your local Chinese market, buying some sushi, leaving it out in the sun for an hour and then devouring it with lots of wasabi.  I can pretty much guarantee that you will have diarrhea within three hours.

If you are looking to get over diarrhea, BART is the way to go.  Yes, a nice steady diet of bananas, applesauce, rice and toast.

Happy shitting!

What's the skinny on BART?  I've never done the BART/diarrhea math.

It worked when my daughter had the occasional bought and worked for my ex-wife too.

I first heard about it in the baby book and the pediatricians we have been to in Canada and California have suggested BART as well.

Rice, toast and bananas seem like logical choices to firm up stool, but I never understood the apple sauce option/suggestion.

Oh, and if you do have diarrhea I know that the doctors suggest http://pedialyte.com/ as well.  (I am sure there must be an adult simulacrum available.)

Dude I don't have diarrhea.  I have permarhea. I'm going to bone up on this BART treatment though.  It's either that or give up Indian food.

Dude, if you have had diarrhea for more than four days, go to a Doctor.

Sounds silly, but you can actually do some serious damage to your body.

4 days?  Try 4 years.  It's not like dysentery where I'm constantly shitting.  But every shit is watery and acidic.  Bad times.
