Someone posted this on the boards that must never be named.  I don't know if it's confirmed true, but I thought people should know... just in case.

Quote
There is a bug where if you train a talent while taking a flying ride(bat, griffon, etc.) or WHILE DEAD you will not recieve the talent skill. For example... I trained my Parry talent while on a griffon ride out of Ashenvale. I never recieved the Parry skill, but the talent point still displays as though I have spent it on Parry.

Per the GMs in game there is no fix for this.

The ONLY way to fix it is to spend YOUR own gold to retrain talents. At which point if you have any talents that increase weapon skills or grant weapon skills... you lose ALL SKILL POINTS associated with that weapon skill.

If I respec my talents I will lose ALL 150+ skill points in 2H axes and 2H maces. That is easily an hour of gameplay just to get back to a point where I can play again.

The GM's will simply close your ticket and say there is nothing they can do. It is completely unbelievable that they are doing nothing about this.

There is no warning from the game or anything telling you not to spec talents while dead or flying.

It is even worse when it is something you can not track... like a talent that improves mana pool by 5%... you really have absolutely no way of checking whether that talent is working as intended or if you accidentally trained it at the wrong time and never recieved the bonus.

Game breaking bug.

In the spirit of Christmas, I thought I'd respond to my own thread.

I wonder if this is the case with other activities as well... such as riding your mount.  I tend to fiddle with stuff when I fly although I haven't used talent points while flying.  I should think a lot of people would use that time to fiddle with themselves, too.  (though not in a pervy way)

There have been other scattered reports of talent point problems including talent points not staying assigned (i.e. you assign a point to a talent and later on the talent level is decremented and the talent point refunded) and one poor person even has his talent points at -1 (way to check for boundary conditions WoW programmers, NOT!). My guess is that the bug described above only happens in special cases and not every time you try to assign talent points while flying or dead. Otherwise this would be a much more widespread problem and the official boards would be filled with people screaming for free talent respecs. E.g. maybe the flying bug only happens when you are crossing an invisible zone line or something of that nature. I think this is probably just another in the long list of sync problems the game has currently (since I multi-box I can see all sorts of bizarre things happening).

This happened to me, but I was "ahead of the curve" and I actually got the issue fixed for free. The GMs now just make you pay the respec fees.

For me, it was on a very noticeable skill - 2h axe / 2h mace ability as a shaman. I trained it, and nothing was added to my skills list. So I went to all 3 weapon masters - nobody was offering either skill. Paged a GM and he gave me the two skills and I went on my way. Few days later the shaman board is filled with threads on the issue.

I'd say go ahead and spend the 1g to retrain once you're about 30. Unless you're absolutely certain that you never trained while flying, that is. Missing a few points here and there would really, really suck.

That's weak :(

Heh, I forgot that they started charging for training in secondary professions, so I just automatically trained for Artisian Skinning without realizing it cost 5 gold! So, I'm a bit short on money right now but probably will respec my talnet in a few levels to make sure I didn't mess any up.
