Makes sense to me. Banks don't need a bunch of employee superheros fighting crime and getting people killed. |

Standard policy for every large company I have ever worked at for front line employees who handle cash has always been:  When faced with an individual who demands the contents of your register, you hand them the cash and do absolutely nothing that could be considered threatening.
Logic being that loss of a few hundred or thousand dollars is MUCH less of an issue to deal with then a potential homicide if you try to play the hero.

Actually, the company line as quoted by the company rep in that article is pretty much word for word what my current employer tells everyone during our semi annual safety and security meetings.

OK, the policy makes sense, but to actually fire someone in this instance is harsh and frankly despicable. |

The guy put his own life and more importantly the lives of other bank employees and customers at risk by knowingly violating the policy. He deserved to be fired. |

Going Rambo endangers everyone, it probably opens the bank up to litigation if a customer gets damaged as a result of the confrontation. Its standard policy from grocery stores to banks. |

If I got shot because some teller wanted to be a hero i'd be pissed, or dead....or dead and pissed. |

Companies have to have policies like this or a lot of innocent people may wind up dead.  I feel kinda bad for the guy, but I'm 100% sure he know this rule before he chased the robber down.   |

Ya, even the guy knows he shouldn't have done that. He had excellent reactions and perception in a high stress situation, though. Not everyone can say that they'd be that focused in a situation like that. He might want to consider joining the police force since he lost his job anyways. Although he'll have to learn the rules and actually obey them. Also I'm pretty sure what he did is going to get him laid.    |

This instance being what?  The instance where you get stuck up for cash, and the guy doing the stickup didnt actually have a gun?  What if you called his bluff and there WAS a gun in his jacket, not just his finger. |

Then the fact that you pinned the guy to the ground would have been much more awesome.
Or you'd get a nice plaque in your name and memory placed somewhere in the bank.
