I worship at the alter of Gervais so I will definitely be seeing this. <-- irony, can you see it? Anything the guy does makes me laugh. Extras is the best sitcom ever. I know some of you may want to debate that but you would be wrong.

Ah, a movie about Nebraska.
Living in Nebraska, I can only say, 'huh?'.

Went and saw this and I gotta say, its not his best work.
I wasn't quite expecting the way he completely skewered I had no idea that this was going to be the main premise and while I can't say as I disagree with it, I was caught a little off guard by it because I wasn't expecting the movie to go in that direction.
Overall a 6/10 Louis CK was the highlight for me for sure though.

The movie could have been written smarter by a magnitude of ten but they settled on romantic comedy. What annoys me is not that people can't lie but that everyone also seems to be a raging douchebag. I get that you can't lie but do you also need to offer up every negative though that comes into your head? I'm not even talking about speaking half-truths but why do the characters feel the need to spill every thought they have in a given situation?
Take for example the conversation with the girls mother when they're eating dinner. Couldn't she have just said "I'm with him right now mom, can't talk to you" instead of going on about his weight, lack of success and zero chance of getting sex that night. To me it's all just a weak excuse to get jokes where they wouldn't otherwise. Wheras the scenes with his mother were a perfect example of what they 'could' do with the movie.

That's every comedy ever boss. The hell it is. Good comedy finds a way to incorporate humor in a way that feels natural and makes sense. Bad comedy shoehorns the jokes in and end up feeling jarring and unrealistic to the world it is set in. People not ever lying? Great. People acting like complete assholes under the auspices of not lying? Stupid.

Can't bring myself to see it. I want to go see it and really, really like it... but there have been so many bad reviews. I've had my heart broken wanting to like bad movies so many times. :(

F is inviting you to start Quarto. Do you want to Accept (Alt+C) or Decline (Alt+D) the invitation? You have accepted the invitation to start Quarto. F says: don't know what this is Az says: I think it's like Az says: where we pour milk on the stomach alien from total recall

This movie left a lot of potential unwritten. I hated that they kept confusing "mistake" with "lying". Just because the guy tells you he has 800 bucks in the bank doesn't mean he's lying (although in this case, he obviously was) he could just be wrong. So having the teller just assume the software was wrong because no one lies was a leap of stupidity. But the scenes with his mother were good. There was also some ok stuff in there about religion, faith and atheism, trying to show the good and bad of them. It just could have been written better.
4/10 for me due to poor writing and untapped potential.

So you're ok with the concept of a world where lies don't exist, but if people are assholes about it then that's a stretch? Were you also upset that they didn't properly respect the source material for the G.I. Joe movie?

The poster above you hit the nail on the head. It's not that I can't believe in the premise, the premise is fine but they stretch it way too thin. Just because someone can't lie doesn't mean they can't be stupid, wrong or just insane does it? Do crazy people not exist in this world? Ignorant people? A lot of people believe things that aren't true, that doesn't make them liars.
Also just because someone must tell the truth that doesn't mean the have to speak every single thought that pops up into their heads at any given time does it? What about simply not saying anything to avoid getting punched in the face?
You're also proving my point by comparing this to gi joe. This could have been a very smart satire that touched on edgy issues but settled for a schlocky romantic comedy that you might as well turn your brain off to watch because the there's more holes in the premise than a thing with lots of holes in it.

I don't know why he's constantly doing love stories (last what 3-4movies?). So much untapped stories or films to do around Karl, but Cemetery Junction could be alright.

His writing for his stand up is awesome, the delivery, not so much. He doesn't need a partner (on stage) he just needs someone else to deliver the material.
I 'm thinking maybe Mencia, that guy is great at doing other comics jokes.

Animals was incredibly good, Fame and Politics sucked though.
