TinEye

A new search engine that takes images you upload (or link to) and finds other images like it. Seems like a cool idea so I've given it a bit of a test:

=====================================================================================

1) Picture of a car - filename: koenigseffccgt.jpg

Result - 37 hits, all the same image, although some variation in editing.

2) Same picture of car - filename: prettyflowers.jpg

Result - same 37 hits

3) Picture of Megan Fox

Result - 501 hits, mostly the same image in various crops and edits, but also some other images which are composites and include the seed image

4) Cropped portion of the prior image - filename testsnip.jpg

Result - Fail "Image too simple to create unique signature"

5) Larger cropped portion of the Megan Fox image - filename test2.jpg

Result - 0 hits, but no specific failure message as in #4

6) Crop of Megan Fox image, including part of her face - filename face.jpg

Result - 35 hits, all versions of the original image

7) Crop of Charlie Chaplin's face

Result - 0 hits, (compared to 63 frsults for the original image

=====================================================================================

So seems quite good for finding other versions of an image you already have. Doesn't seem like you can seed it and have it find other images of the same person. Not quite sure I can figure out what the use of it is yet, but seems like an amusing toy.

edit: Now with added link!

Oh god, awesome.  I've actually been looking for something like this for awhile.  I had thought somebody already did something like it, but couldn't find anything in my searching.  I just want this for when I find a random unexplained picture that I really want to find the context for, or just a better version of it.

If it finds all sizes, this could be very good for making wallpapers or finding images useful for high res work when you only have a low res source.

It is a great tool for finding bait and switch escort operations too.

They use bit.ly to shorten domains, so ++ to them.

Mostly though, NiX fucking nailed it and the link above shows that that is EXACTLY what it does. However, it had no image as large as the one I put in, so... yea...

You set the bar pretty high though, at 1900x1200.

Yea, but it's a cropped wallpaper. I was hoping for a huge version of the full one.
