You should just say which one's you liked, and then let those people come forward as they will.

But I also want to know which people I shouldn't listen to...

Ok, who put up Acid House Kings and AC Newman?

Eva Cassidy would have been a good fit for this mixtape.

Sweet...1 song I have ever even heard of, much less actually heard. I am obviously far too old for this project.

??

It starts with incredibly well-known songs by Bowie and Pink Floyd.

Which is funny because they are old ass songs.  But wouldn't the mixtape have been pretty boring if you'd already heard everything on it?

I missed this, though since there's no actual place for music discussion on f13, it wasn't hard to do. Hopefully next time I'll be paying attention.

I gathered that people submitted songs via email, but were they just sending youtube links or mp3s or what?

This no doubt made it easy and legal, but fuck I HATE youtube for actually trying to listen to this.

Can you put together an album or mix tape like this using singles from Amazon?  You might even be able to pick up a partner kickback.  I know I'd buy a copy.

Fair enough, that just limits my future submissions a touch drastically (90% of the time I'm looking for a music video on youtube it doesn't exist these days) but I appreciate the need to keep it all above board.

Also, Youtube has started disabling audio on many of the videos due to copyright infringement. I can't find half of what I'd want to use.

If all else fails you can always upload it yourself.  (You see a lot of this for songs that don't have official music videos; some fan will make a video that's basically a slideshow of album art with the song in the background and upload it.)  If it's something obscure enough that it doesn't have a real music video on YouTube it's probably also obscure enough that the copyright holder isn't out there hunting down its fans for stuff like that.

This was the problem I had as well.  Either Youtube doesn't have it or they used to and later deleted it.  I misinterpreted what Schild was going for anyway, so in hindsight it doesn't really matter.  I can think of 4 or 5 songs off the top of my head right now that would fit in very well with what Schild selected this time around, but they aren't songs that I would have submitted originally.

Over and out.

I don't think schild himself knew what he was going for until a bunch of the submissions were in.  Them's the breaks.

So when are we going to do the next one?  And is schild going to do it or are we going to take turns?   Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

You'd think so, but the audio is disabled for plenty of "videos" of old, random songs. I was thinking we could just use one of those My Flash Fetish (ignore the name, it's not bad) sites that lets you make little mp3 player widgets and searches all over the web for mp3s.

For example, here's that Wendy Rene version of After Laughter I was looking for but couldn't find on Youtube. You just have to click the play button on the song to hear the whole thing, or you can click "add to playlilst" and make a cute little widget mp3 player with other songs.

Then you can link to it externally or embed the code (into a blog or a social networking site). The code button doesn't seem to do anything here.

this was not the mixtape I was expecting.  It was very "mature" in a lot of ways.  And several tune/artists I had never heard of.  I liked it.

Carry on.
