What a strange website.

The author seems to be anti-war, anti-police brutality, anti-racist and anti-censorship, which is all fine... but also anti-wh2k, anti-vaccine and supported by lolcats. I don't think "fundies" is the right pigeonhole... I think it's "loonies".

I am delighted that we can condition our children to be genetically engineered. I always thought you'd have to do that before birth. Lets see what I can condition my nephew towards. I'm hoping superhuman strength and genius intellect.

Mind-controlled future soldier?

Sounds like my mom when she's telling me what a great soldier for christ I'd be.

He's certainly not a fundie. Just another stoned kid on the Internet suffering from paranoid delusions. On the subject of "Angels of Death" he says:

Quote
I am not even a religious person,
but this offends even me.

Apparently the idea of angels being death-dealers offends his non-religious sensibilities. Because angels don't do that in the stories.

I thought angels were all avenging fire and wrath of god etc? Scary bastards I reckon they'd be.

The Angel of Death is much more prominent in Jewish tradition than in Christian, but there's some bleedover from the Torah (aka the Pentateuch, first 5 books of the bible).

On the "click here for more info" link there's a letter to gamers which claims that the page author is a woman who has served in the army. It's signed "Angie"

I just emailed GW legal with a link to that site.

Those guys are ...quite protective of their IP.

The Space Marines are coming for Angie..

Okay, that's it.  That's all I'm taking from you lovely gamers.  What nasty people some of you are.  How dare you.  Shame on you.  I'm not here for you fellows, I'm here in my own right and have every right to my opinion.  I am not attacking you but YOU have ganged up and are brutally bombarding me with your hatred.  You're not even making sense.  You will give nothing toward connecting or understanding what I am actually talking about and it's NOT YOU or your silly killing games.  ALL EMAIL ADDRESSES CONNECTED WITH THIS WEBSITE ARE NOW DEAD.  If you write you're wasting your time, no one will ever see your messages.  I hope you enjoy your "victory", whatever you think you've accomplished.  It takes no effort at all to be closed minded, combative, hostile and rude.  It takes real men to put aside differences and try to understand and find a way to get along anyway.  You're all cowards.  I've done nothing you wouldn't do in my place.  I hope you've had your fun because I'm no longer going to have to put up with your childish, mean, selfish, rude, insulting emails.   AND THIS PAGE IS NOT COMING DOWN.

Still, it'll be funny to see if it stays up.

On a serious level a guy I know was harassed for wearing 40K stuff on the street cause everyone thought he was a neo-nazi. This was 10 years ago, but let face it, the inspirations for a lot of the imagery of 40K is dodgy in the extreme, and doubly so if you have no idea that game exists. Hell even if you do "Genetically superior supermen who are the only defense against genetically unclean and the forces of disorder, that are constantly trying to bring down civilization from within". You don't have to be crazy to connect fairly obvious dots.

Funnily enough when GW moved to their new corporate headquarters about ten years ago a lot of money was spent on remodelling the existing building as a nod to the lore. This included Bugman's, the Dwarf theme bar, the life-sized Space Marine statue outside, reception getting the full gothic-cathedral look and, somewhat controversially the outside of the boardroom was covered by a 50 foot long Imperial Eagle. All the local taxi drivers were convinced I worked at some kind of Nazi-theme park.

And yes, there's a fairly overt nod to hyper-nationalist sentiment in the lore - especially in 40K. I once heard John Stallard explain that GW used black, white and red as it's primary palette for branding because 'they are good totalitarian colours'.

Well, yeah - the Imperium are Space Nazis crossed with 16th Century Catholics (and the Tau are Space Stalinists). And they're the good guys least bad guys.

I don't get the impression personally that the Imperium are the least bad guys, nor that they're presented in a way that tries to make them the least bad guys. If anything the Tau and sometimes the Eldar tend to get the most 'positive' portrayals. That said for all I know it is different in the novels and such.
