This is a good reason to leave work early... although it's probably not in a local store right now.

It was playable in a store here but it's listed as a 12/6 release (Europe reporting).

It was not at local stores at 3pm, didn't check the local Game Stop, as they're fucking retards. The last competent person working there was arrested ages ago for terrorism.

My local Toys R Us never gets games on time but the allure of a $20 gift card prompted one more try.  Surprisingly it's in today but won't be sold until after 5:30PM.

Sadly, that $20 gift card will go right towards a MotionPlus.  Dongle dongle dongle.

(Best Buy gets it tomorrow.)

Just checked online availability. My local Best Buy says estimated in store 6/10, currently in stock.  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

If you go to Best Buy, take in the TRU ad for a $20 gift card price match.  I have done it in the past with no problems, getting both a gift card as well as just a price adjustment with no gift card.

Gamefly is showing it as a 6/11 release....perhaps it was delayed? It was showing as a 6/9 release last week.

For here at least, it's released, but because we're in the middle of nowhere, it won't be in stores until maybe tomorrow, Thursday for sure.  Bleh.

So Best Buy had it in stock, but they insisted the release date was 6/10 and wouldnt sell it to me. Went by Gamestop, and they had a bunch so I bought it there.

Yes, played for about 45 minutes late last night. So far I am a bit disappointed. I feel strangely disconnected from the world, and the controls are not intuitive at all. It feels more like you are skimming over the top of the world the whole time, not really part of it. The Parkour stuff is to automated, basically point in a direction and just hold the parkour button down, and wait till you get to your destination. This could just be early game feeling, but compared to inFAMOUS so far the movement and controls are a bit of a letdown. Also, the character animations are not as good as I had expected them to be. So far the actual gameplay reminds me more of a B title superhero game, not a triple A title that has been hyped for over a year.

The memory cutscreens on the other hand are very very well done. Some of the coolest little movie clip type things I have seen. In that respect it reminds me a bit of MGS4.

How does it compare to Crackdown (if you played that), I'm considering buying it of Steam but I can't decide if it's worth 50€ or not.

Honestly I am not far in enough to tell. The movement is more like a hybrid of Hulk Ultimate Destruction and Assassins Creed with the hover move from inFamous. Its like Assassins Creeds in that you hold a button and run at stuff and he runs up walls and over cars and such, but he does it at an Hulk type speed. So far its more reminiscent of Hulk than Crackdown. But Again, I have only played for like an hour total.

I binged on Prototype for a couple hours.  Like Morfiend I feel disconnected from the world and it has something to do with zooming around the city.  There's lots of people and cars and stuff, and jumping off buildings is fun and everything, but I already wish I had warp points directly to missions.

Additionally, I hate the protagonist.  He's too gruff, too emo, too amnesia-ey, and every line is delivered flat.  I'd be enjoying the game more if he was mute.  Hopefully his jaw breaks off.

I played for another hour last night. Honestly, if I had rented it, I would probably take it back right now. Its just annoying to me. I agree with FFC about the protagonist, he is annoying beyond belief. Also, besides the gliding over the world feeling, the world is so bland, you just cant really care about anything, and every building looks the same. Another annoying thing is that they make you this insanely powerful character, and yet as the same time, make you feel weak in almost every situation.

I would say that my disappointment level with this game is very very high.

I must be broken or something, I am finding the game really fun. I'm happy with my purchase. I dont dive into console titles really deeply, I rarely ever play for more than an hour at a time. That said, I don't have any way to relate to the negative reviews so far. I wish stuff like this wasn't so subjective.

I think a lot of my gripes stem from the fact that I recently finished inFAMOUS which was very similar game, but IMO better in almost every way.

I'm probably going to pick up either Infamous or Prototype at some point.  Would other folks who have played both agree that Infamous is a better buy?  Prototype looked pretty fun from that teaser video that was posted a while back; I haven't seen much of Infamous.

Im sure you dont mean me, cause my opinion is pretty clear from my last few posts, but I found inFAMOUS to be much more fun and engaging with better graphics and controls.

There is a demo of inFAMOUS on PSN, go grab it and see if you like it. You can then come here and posts what you liked or didnt like about the demo, and we can tell you how those things compare to Prototype.

Infamous is a technically superb game.

Prototype is a wonderful place to flatten city blocks in, and has far more "that's COOL" moments between it's "this is lame" moments.

I'll say that for me, Infamous died out at the third island, and it's high quality and design dropped off. I haven't hit that point with prototype, though the sudden introduction of random QTE-or-take-20%-damage in fights irks me.

Prototype was fun to watch being played.  Seemed very sandboxy in that you could do a lot of things.  Also very bloody.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

Eh, I guess I'm going to have to get this and see for myself.  Tight controls are very important to me and I'm afraid I am going to get burned, but sometimes you have to take one for the team.

I think the controls are what bother me the most about Prototype. I am constantly fighting with them to go where I want, and when I do, the camera usually pans around in the wrong direction.

I feel that both Prototype and inFamous suffer from Fucking Bland Sandbox Syndrome.  GTA3 was a sweet sandbox because the city was memorable.  It had landmarks and unique buildings so that not only did you have a reason to go from point A to point B, after a while you could navigate between them without a map.  Both Prototype and inFamous lack those important things, both being full of generic buildings instead.  inFamous gives a little effort at breaking things up, but it's not nearly enough to compare.

Admittedly, GTA3 was short on skyscrapers; both of these games are obviously going for tall buildings to let the player Batman around from rooftop to rooftop, but they could have done much more to make the buildings distinctive.

The again, inFamous has a fantastic framerate and I assume that's because there are a limited number of world textures.  I really missed solid framerates on good-looking games.  That said, yes, there is an awful lot of Brown and Grey... then I get to the second island where the enemies don't have red jackets and sometimes zap bystanders.  I'd be fine with the city if they just punched up the colors a bit.  Sometimes I have to press L3 to highlight enemies, which sucks.
