Yep, Sony just dropkicked the Wii AND the 360/Natal in the fucking nuts. The demonstrations with the Vibrator just absolutely kill.

Sounds like they are trying to fix the console atm.

E3 was pretty good for both Sony and MS. At least they are finally understanding it is a gaming conference and not a shareholders meeting. We don't really care about numbers we just want to see the games.

From MS I was happy to see Crackdown 2, L4D2, Alan Wake and most of all SC: Conviction. Ubisoft really knocked it out of the park with that one. Project Nada (A project name Schild not the final name...hurr durr) is interesting but as with all motion controls its all a gimmick and only fun with other people but shitty when I want to play alone and veg out.

With Sony I was of course impressed with God of War 3, Uncharted (Wow!), GT5 graphics (Racing games....zzzzzzz....), and some of the new PSP games. MAG was rather meh, it had tons of graphic problems like screen tearing and frame rate issues that hopefully will be fixed by launch...knowing Zipper it will be a mess at launch but will eventually be polished.

Overall I am really disappointed with the focus on motion controllers from all 3 companies but I guess it was inevitable.

Top 3 games of show so far:

1. Mass Effect 2
2. SC: Conviction
3. Uncharted 2

Lools like some good things coming -  Heart for Uncharted 2!

As a race game fan though I think MS has it over Sony this gen (Forza vs. GT) - if I could afford I would totally set this up:

Kicked down the Wii yea. That controller was smoooth.

Not sure I agree about them beating out Natal though. This still looks like the Wii motion plus Nintendo wanted to make. They made creative use of a a really high-def one-handed wand, it's still merely a one-handed wand.

In the end though we've got three decades of accessories to show that the device is less important than who shows up to play with. You either redesign the whole up-front purchase around the new control scheme ala Wii, or you get 25% or less of your owners to buy some after-market device. That in turn means less developer support. Heck, lookit the Wii itself. 100% tie ratio between console owners and Wii-mote owners and it's still mostly (with exception of course) the first-party stuff that properly utilizes it.

I don't see either one changing the field for either console.

Game wise, I thought Sony's showing was better though.

Yea, the whole thing was pretty traumatic. And the run when the power went out was amazing. It's truly a new american tragedy. Hopefully he tries again tomorrow.

Seeing the Hall of Fame induction (there's a hall of fame?) was a pretty upbeat way to end it though. Did he at least beat his own old record?

Finally got to see the Sony presser (was at work during it).  Sony blew everyone else out of the water on their event.  Reggie had to watch that and just say "fuuuuuucccckk".

The sword/shield applications of the tech demo Sony showed has fucktons of potential.  Between that and the bow/arrow application, you could almost see a very awesome adventure game on the way.  In about 3-5 years, but w/e.

I'm not too hot on God of War, but damn... that was simply amazing.

Really don't see any developers signing on to do a big AAA title for that device anytime soon (Natal neither). Hopefully though the internal groups get the resources to go for it. No idea how much the remote is going to cost, but considering the Wii-motes are $50 and you get your first one for free, and can't see these being impulse priced. That also complicates bundling. Would you rather have your Assassin's Creed 2 for $70 or $120+?

I think some folks may be misreading the tea leaves here. These aren't full-on answers to the Wii-mote, which in my opinion still doesn't sell the idea of immersion as it does intuitive controls (and then only for the scant few games that properly utilize it).

These are good gimmicks to try and take a stab at broadening their considerable basis beyond the hardcore they already have and the Wii will not get in this cycle. But they're probably going to be pricey and have such limited support that we really won't know until the next cycle whether they become dedicated features in the next PS and Xbox iteration.

There's nothing at all surprising about the origins of the Sony device in the EyeToy. The technology itself has never been the main problem here.

Darniaq said what I wanted to say. Precision was never the Wiimote's primary issue, eventhough it is a big issue. Sony's contraption doesn't solve how we're practically going to play a fully developed, modern game using motion capture. It's just a "hey, we can too" to Nintendo/MS. Exceptionally few activities in real life (or games) involve standing still and swinging your arms about.

After checking my feeds off and on all day and seeing almost nothing but stories about the Wii Vital Sensor I was getting a bit annoyed.
