Another weekend rental.  Was not looking forward to it, as I had heard somewhat negative things about it.  To my surprise, I actually kind of liked it quite a bit.  It may be the only movie I've ever seen with Nicole Kidman that I didn't want to throw stuff at her.  Hugh Jackman in all his manly burliness, and it turns out he wasn't as miscast for this part as I thought he would be.  A bit long (close to 3 hours) and disjointed at times, but both my wife and I were like "Damn...that wasn't half bad."  There were parts where I almost even got a little weepy.

Bit of a Pearl Harbor vibe, but not really in a bad way (it really isn't a war movie, per se).  I wouldn't call it a Must See movie, but don't be afraid to rent it if no great alternatives are apparent.

I agree with you here I was dragged to see this in the cinema but actually ended up enjoying it, it's the sort of film that lends itself to the big screen or home cinema maybe. It's the kind of self effacing kitsch that doesn't take itself too seriously, if you kind of go with it on these grounds you should end up enjoying the ride.

I'm going to escape, come back, wipe this place off the face of the Earth, obliterate it and you with it.

Thank you for posting in my lonely, lonely thread.  You may be right about it being good mainly for big screen - I watch all movies on Blu Ray via my projector on a roughly 150 inch screen, which makes most things more awesome by default.
