Yes I am a terminally lazy bastard: Does anyone have links to any of the assorted GUI replacements for WoW? Having hit level 27 with my mage, I am finding that i REALLY want more easily available quick action slots.

Personally, I use CTMOD. It's clean, gives me the additional hotkey bars I need, and even has a nifty little HP/Mana regen ticker. I tried Cosmos but quite frankly, it's a buggly, bloated turd in comparison. I had multiple crashes using it, sometimes my hotkey bars would freeze up (unable to move them), and it seemed to add quite a bit of system lag. It has nifty features like a DPS calculator, totem stomper, and some added quest functionality, but I'm not going to trade stability for fluff. This post has some links to the more common UI mods. One of note to watch is Telo's standalone mods. They're nice to use for adding small functions to a more barebones UI mod or just to grab one or two things for your UI. I personally use the Item Buff mod since I missed it from Cosmos. But, if you get Cosmos, it pretty much has everything in it. Finally, if you get less lazy, the WoW UI customization forum isn't that bad. Well, if you ignore half of the posts which are just complaining about Cosmos fucking up.

I'll add the one I've been trying out lately, it's nice and clean. GypsyModI have tried Cosmos, CTMod and GypsyMod. They all do a good job. Thanks for the tip about Telo's AddOns. I think that I will probably go that route next, to make my own UI. Things I like in any custom UI Mod: clock, side bars, buff timers, quick loot, extra bottom bars. LootLink sounds interesting.

I am also a fan of using Gypsymod, plus a few extra add-ons from elsewhere such as Telo's Clock addon.
I usually go for the intersection of minimalism and functionality. Gypsy does just about everything I would like, and seems the cleanest/most well documented of the major UI mods.

I use the one from Nurfed. Nothing fancy or useless. It has a few extra features for monitoring party members, ticks, buffs/debuffs, auto hotkeys potions, more spell slots, quick quest scrolling (also displays quest lvls)...among other things. All in all, just a better way to make on the fly moves and calculations during combat.

What I would really love is an ability to bind custom key to everything - I have no idea why having your spells go og from alt+<key here> are not part of the client. If anybody finds how to do it please let me know. I also agree Cosmos is a buggy POS.

sinij - gypsymod allows you to have two rows of hotbars, and is much smaller/more compact than the cosmosUI version. The two rows of hotbars on Gypsy take up about as much space as 1.25 rows of cosmosUI. you can map the second rows of keys to anything. I have the bottom row mapped as simply pressing the number, the top row as pressing alt + number, and then 5 extra action buttons as ctrl + number. It's all very easy to set up in the options, I recommend it.

Is there a way to move away from 'hotbar' and just bind keys to whatever you want?
I miss SB UI, if anything that game had great UI, easy to use and customizable in every possible way, from the box.

Is there a way to move away from 'hotbar' and just bind keys to whatever you want? Kind of but it's not easy. You have to hack together your own custom binding files to do that.

They just patched to remove all the time zones. Cosmos won't work properly until they update it. I just checked and the cosmos site seems to be knackered.
Edit: Oh... it seems to be back. No updated version, though.

They just patched to remove all the time zones. Cosmos won't work properly until they update it. I just checked and the cosmos site seems to be knackered. Every time Blizzard updates the client they intentionally break all UI mods. You can wait for the mod makers to update their *.toc files to work with the updated client or you can make the changes yourself: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?FN=wow-interface-customization&T=5858&P=1

Oh, right... it's the same as CTMod then. I'm new to Cosmos and didn't realise. Thanks.

Cosmos has so many freaking .toc files to modify that I just deleted the bloated thing. I'm going the minimal route so that each patch doesn't require 30 minutes of wordpad editing of toc files.

Wordpad sucks for that sort of thing. Here is what I did: 1, Grab TextPad (free) 2. Use Windows to search for all .toc files in the Interface folder 3. Open TextPad and drag the list of .toc files in to open them all 4. Do a Replace All for the version number line throughout all open docs (TextPad has an option for this in the Replace dialog) 5. Save All and away you go. 2 minutes tops, barring the download/install time.

The new Census tool in Cosmos is pretty slick. I can post a screen shot later, but I can't figure out how to do that on my Mac.. so, I'll have to do it at home.
Bruce, if you need any data on how many people are playing on a server, that's the way to get it.

Just want you guys to see the census thing, in case you don't install cosmos: Apparently it keeps track of character names so you can continue to add to the data of what's being played on the server (by taking snap shots later that will intelligently add to the current results).

I tried Cosomos, Gypsy and CTMod. While I like many of the features of Gypsy, I finally settled on CTMod because it has the most buttons on screen at the same time, which is essential for my shaman. I use them all, oy.

Did anybody else realise that the most played race on that server is Nightelf? And that the most common class is the hunter? So... probably the most common combo is a Nightelf Hunter. Anybody else dismayed by that idea?
Incidently I'll be picking this up tomorrow and I want to know why everyone is going with custom UIs. Something I should know about the standard one?

You were too busy drinking beer and chasing sheilas. (or whatever it is they call kangaroos over there) It can only have ONE hotbar on the screen at a time! It's a terrible UI... they should be ashamed. And you can't resize or move most of it. Very early on you run out of space for what you want showing on your screen... and no one wants the use alt and ctrl to switch around. Silly Blizzard thinking people were so coordinated. Anyway, using a UI mod is almost like cheating. Feels nice.

Using GypsyMod myself, for the ability to move the interface elements around (I tend to miss the party bars unless they're right in my face, and that's bad for a priest) as well as the extra hotkeys. Mapped the other bar to the numpad, since I like to keep Alt-x as a self-cast.
You can't draw a conclusion like that about Night-Elf Hunters, simply because NE and druid is a required combo which eschews the race popularity polls. From what I've seen in-game, Dwarf is the most popular race for the hunters (they have guns).

Anybody else dismayed by that idea? Yeah, I was surprised by that too. It's funny, since Hunters are kind of gimp (this also indicates how many people sincerely like Elves, regardless of the gimpness...Kind of scary). It is nice to see that Paladins and Shamans aren't coming out on top though. People are just playing what they like...So far. Incidently I'll be picking this up tomorrow and I want to know why everyone is going with custom UIs. Something I should know about the standard one? I don't think there's anything wrong with it really. I'd choose the standard one over Cosmo for sure. I don't know about anyone else, but the reason why I use a different UI is to simplify a couple of things during combat, not to make them more complicated or bloated. Signe's right though, in a way it feels like cheating. At least during PvP, or when fighting mobs gets a little out of a hand, I'm a lot better off than the person using the standard UI.

Something I should know about the standard one? It's shitty. You forgot to add "... and barely customizable without scripting, thus not customizable in-game." Yep, shitty should just about do it.

Not to hijack too far athread, but this might be a beta mindset. I played a hunter when they were first released in beta, and they have made huge improvements to the class since then. They are a terrific solo class and add a lot of intangibles to a group. I would have chosen a dwarf instead of a night elf hunter, except the dwarf character models are awful, and I couldn't imagine having to stare at it for 60 levels.

GUI! How quaint. I wrote a custom text UI.
You see a Felwood Satyr > attack Flewood Satyr Huh? Felwood Satyr hits you for 35 damage > attack Felwood Satyr It's too far away Felwood Satyr hits you for 32 damage > n You move 1m north Felwood Satyr hits you for 14 damage You are stunned > healing potion You begin brewing a healing potion. Felwood Satyr hits you for 40 damage You are interrupted! Elder Ashenvale Bear hits you for 73 You are dead.
It's awesome!

They are a terrific solo class and add a lot of intangibles to a group. It isn't that the class itself is bad, but ranged weapons are shit midway through until 60. Pet's armor rating won't compare with player armor later on either. With a lack of decent high lvl weapons and pet's with half the armor rating of players, I'd say Hunters were rushed. That'll change, of course, but I doubt overnight. Anyone who's 40 and above right now will start noticing how weak they're getting compared to everyone else. Don't feel bad though, I'm playing a Warrior :)

IMO, hunters are one of the very best classes at soloing via standard outdoor hunting, which is what a lot of players spend almost all their time doing. Their weakness is in your powergamer instance groups.

From what I've seen in-game, Dwarf is the most popular race for the hunters (they have guns). It's a little hard to compare since at lower levels Night Elves tend to stay over on Kalimdor while the vast majority of Alliance are over on Azeroth and Khaz Modan. And Night Elf Hunters can use guns too, though it's not easy to get for a low level NE Hunter and it's not common knowledge for new (non-Beta) players.

"Sold Out". Everywhere. And all the online stores here are on back-order. Oh well, I'm on backorder and should get it in about 7 days (with express shipping no less). Damned if I'm going to go to a shopping center on the 22nd of Fing December to pick up a game I could get earlier online.
