Last night me and 7 other friends got together to adventure together...and discovered the 5 member limit to groups. I tried converting the group to "raid" and one of the members said that a tip popped up that said "raid" will not work for some quests and rewards. (I either have tips turned off, or Cosmos doesn't work with tips.)
I noticed that the only raid members that showed up on the map were the ones in your own sub-group. There was a /raid channel, which was nice, but we were using ventrillo anyway.
Is the raid grouping function only for instances? Anyone know if ALL of the quests in instances are shared by the entire raid group? We are getting ready to do the "Hidden Enemies" quest in Orgrimmar.
Since we couldn't fit everyone in one group, we split and had two groups running around doing the quests. It was pretty chaotic.
If anyone knows how grouping/raiding works and would care to share that would be great. Thanks!

Raid groups can only complete raid quests together, instanced stuff, not the normal quests you get.

Did they change the raid rules so you can't take raids into 5-person instances anymore? That was extremely lame.

A group is a collection of up to five players who, being grouped, will split XP and loot. A Raid Group is, AFAIK, a group of groups who will split XP and loot during certain, raid-enabled encounters.

As I understand it you can still take raids into non-raid (5 person balanced) instances, but you don't get quest drops.

Anyone ever figure out exactly why Blizzard limited groups to 5 people only? That seems like a really small amount, especially when the "standard" for MMOGs has been 8-ish or so.
Taking a 5 person group into Blackfathom Deeps just doesn't cut it in some spots. And when you get the second part of that quest to go deeper in, it can be insane. I did BFD over the weekend (and after spending a fun time repeatedly chasing the Horde away from the dungeon before we went in) and it took us about 2 hours at least to do. We had a pickup druid with us (little fuck left after getting "his" part of the quest done.. idiot) and the rest of us were 2 warriors, a mage and a priest, all early/mid 20s.
We started ignoring spawns and killing them only if they absolutely needed to be killed. Otherwise we would have been swarmed. And since these are elites, being equal level means you are lower and have to work harder. It was a hard quest, and I'm sure we missed somethings because we just didn't have the time/people to kill the mobs. With a larger group, it might have been easier to do, instead of planning to wait and go back once we've practically outleveled the dungeon. A few more people would have been good.

As I understand it you can still take raids into non-raid (5 person balanced) instances, but you don't get quest drops. This is true. You do not share non-raid quests in a raid group, so only the sub group who tapped a quest mob will get quest loot. Other than that the regular loot is shared. My guild is running a low level raid through SFK on wednesday, so I will let you know how it works out, as I never did any PVE raiding in beta after they changed it.
