So at the recommendation of a number of you, I joined E-Uni. It's been great and all, but they have some lame fucking rules:
1. You can't go to 0.0 without director approval, or you get booted out of the corp (they never give approval)
2. You can't shoot stuff in low sec unless it's flashy
3. You can't leave shit out to bait people into going flashy
My question is this: how the fuck do I get any PvP experience without getting the boot from the corp? Should I troll around low sec trying to hunt down flashies? I should note: I tried that (more than) once and lost (multiple) ship(s).
Any suggestions? I'm getting desperate...

There are a number of corp run low sec (and occasionally 0.0) runs, but because the corp wishes to remain neutral, the flashy rule always applies. Thus, the low sec runs usually turn into a large mass of between 30 and 70 players hoping around from gate to gate, waiting for some poor fool to engage a particularly weak looking target.
The other day we spent the better part of three hours jumping back and forth between a single gate in 0.0. We ended up booking four kills, but there were 37 people, and I barely had time to tackle before the ships had popped. It all seems like a rather false sense of what PvP is all about.

On the eve uni website there is a forum for ads from corps recruiting eve uni members. When doing GIA stuff I find that - after a couple of weeks in eve uni - if I go to one of those and say "hey there I joined for PvP but really can't get enough through the uni, it seems you guys do a lot of PvPing can I join you?" then I invariably get in.

To give a slightly different point of view due to having seen many small Eve-uni groups duke it out in high-sec...
My biggest problem when engaging in pvp used to be (and still is when flying pricey ships) was simply panicking as soon as something would lock me. Messing around like Eve-Uni groups do allows you to get used to the rush and the constant flashy, even get used to get shot and lose ships.
I, for one, consider such experiences invaluable. The barrier of entry to pvp is in your head, not in your wallet.

Uni sometimes has frigate free for alls, which are fun. The reason they have such strict rules about 0.0 and lowsec is they try very hard to maintain 'neutrality'. I don't know what their relationship is with KIA, but the Uni used to have a lot of problems with Roadkill and Smash back when they held sovereignty in Germinate.

I played Eve for 18 mths before I gave my character away and last month after a 8 mth hiatus started a new account. My experience of 0.0 PvP for what it's worth, is that unless you have the skills to make isk, you are always dependant on others to survive in 0.0. This I found to be very dull and would recommend against it. I have lots of friends in 0.0 but have no intention of moving back there yet.
I think you should use Eve Uni to skill up and get to at least 5 to 6 m sp before making the move. I know that there are people who do the move in their first week but 0.0 is not set up to cater for newbies. A new character needs lots of skill books and T1 mods which I believe are cheaper and usually easier to obtain in Empire. I believe you should use your time in empire to develop a character that will be self sufficient and get some resources behind you, as if you find yourself in a prolonged 0.0 conflict, isk making, even for more experienced characters can be difficult.
Co-incidentally I am currently in Eve Uni doing exactly what I have just advised you to do.

That's all nonsense, newbies are extremely useful in 0.0 and can make a metric shitton of money from day 1. Very few ratters loot/salvage everything, you can make far more just salvaging and looting behind a ratter chaining a good spawn than you could in empire running level 4s. Frigates can be extremely useful in pvp, many of us with millions of skillpoints will still hop in a cheap ship and have some lulz- I've been flying around delve for a week in a shoddily fit thorax and having a blast.
Do what Endie said - Find a corporation advertising, tell them you want pvp, and for your money making find a few jews and salvage the shit they don't. As for books, just get them all in your head first, when you need more you can always pod jump to empire, learn a handful, and pod jump/JC back home.

This is easy when you have an established support system, or good friends, true. Things are tough in 0.0 with 1 million SP.

I'd recommend Providence. You could apply to one of the many corps in that space, but even if you don't, they generally don't shoot neutrals there and the place is in general a great newbie haven.
If it's solo PvP you're after, the lowsec route is your only real option.

If you're out in 0.0 without friends or some kind of support structure and aren't enjoying yourself then it's time to start looking for some new people to starting flying with.
Having low skill points isn't the issue, it's being in a corp which doesn't value or support it's low SP players.

I'll second this, you should try and get in contact with Aegis Militia in providence. Its a great starting grounds for 0.0 and pvp. There are also many other small corps in the CVA area that would be more than happy to recruit you. CVA themselves would be difficult to get into though, as its usually by referral only, but there are a lot of CVA friendly corps around Assen that are recruiting. Just check the offices in the stations.

No one mentioned the Faction War, it is not viable PvP?

FW is viable as a source of PvP, but I gather from friends that to really excel you need to be part of an organised player corporation to ensure you always have access to a decent pool people to fly with rather than the randomness which comes from relying on PUGs and elitist FCs.
However, once you've got a solid group of people then you might as well take those skills out to 0.0 where there are a lot more possibilities for fun & profit.

Factional warfare was added as part of the Empyrean Age patch / update, essentially gives players access to a large pool of "empire wardec" style PvP and low-sec PvE content as part of a large faction-aligned NPC militia force. In other words if you or your corp joined the Caldari militia you'd be able to shoot at Gallente & Minmatar militia pilots and they'd be able to shoot at you, while you (optionally) attempt to claim / defend key low-sec systems for whichever faction you're allied with for fun and glory. http://www.eveonline.com/guide/en/g625.asp
