Anyone interested in this game? I never played the first one, but played the multiplayer freebie they had a few years back. At the time, I thought it was a good shooter, if the maps were a bit cramped. I've heard that this time they're emphasising story more, and incorporating mechs. Ghost girl vs Mechs. How can this fail?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I'll probably give it a pass. I enjoyed FEAR but I think straight-up shooters are just too one-dimensional for me. But as far as FPS goes, FEAR met one of my main requirements: fun and adaptable enough to play through an area multiple times to try different things.

I tried the demo. The endless flickering lights and shaky cam, along with the forced widescreen mode with unnecessary drivel around the edges, pissed me off so much that I didn't get farther than 15 minutes into it. I recall the first FEAR as a little scary, but this was just frustrating.

Really, there's a point where you paraphrase Danny Glover and just go "fuck it, I'm too old for this shit."

I will probably get it even though I can't work on such games with the wife and boy in the house.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

I tried the demo and really liked it. It has far more variety than the original FEAR, which mainly took place in a concrete office block. I was chortling when I got to climb into a mech and start blasting away like crazy.

The one (big!) caveat is that the game at times brought my quad core, 4870 gpu system to its knees. Now that's a feat.

Definitely interested in this, but going to wait until there's plenty of decent reviews (preferably on this board, heh) before getting it. Loved FEAR, enjoyed the scary a lot and have a special place in my gaming heart for the ending.

I was interested, but the demo crashes on my machine in Vista and Win7. Guess I'll give it a miss.

I'm going to do what apocrypha is doing.

Also, I should install and play FEAR. Probably next, after I finish the clusterfuck that Far Cry 2 has become...

Odd.  I cranked everything up to maximum and the only hitches I found were the load points that cause about a 1/4 second delay.  FWIW, Q6600 OC'd to 3.2Ghz, 8800GTS(G92) in SLI, and 4GB of RAM.

I thought the new ATI's were supposed to be on par or better than the Nvidia equivalents?

Depends all on which one the game is optimized for. And if one of the companies got early access to tweak their drivers.
