Best Picture: Frost/Nixon, though we'll see how gay sympathetic they are this year.
Best Actor: Langella (Honorable Mention to Rourke), likely Winner (Penn)
Best Actress: Don't care.
Supporting Actor: Ledger (wooooooooooo!) or Downey
Supporting Actress: Tomei
Director: Danny Boyle
Foreign:  Don't know these, will watch. Normally they aren't this... obscure. At least not to me.
Screenplay: Frost/Nixon.
Original Screenplay: In Bruges
Art Direction: The Dark Knight or Benjamin Button
Cinematography: Slumdog Millionaire (just gorgeous)
Sound Mixing: Honestly, Wanted. Shite otherwise.
Sound Editing: Iron Man
Original Score: Slumdog Millionaire
Original Song: O Saya!, Slumdog Millionaire (heh)
Documentary: Man on Wire
Film Editing: mmmmmmmmm Slumdog.
Makeup: Benjamin Button, no question. Dark Knight's only good makeup was the Joker.
Visual Effects: Dark Knight

In Bruges did not get enough love. Also, I've watched part of Ip Man, the story about Bruce Lee's Mentor, and I really wish it had gotten some love somewhere.

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Actor: Mickey Rourke, hands down. I still don't get the Frost/Nixon love. It's a complete reenactment of the TV interview, why not just watch the interview instead? If you want an awesome Nixon watch the Stone flick. Penn already has to many Oscars therefore will not win.
Best Actress: Most probably Kate Winslet but given the academy track record maybe not. Academy will most probably do a Scorsese though and give Winslet an Oscar.
Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Supporting Actress: not really a great movie lineup, maybe Tomei
Director: Danny Boyle
Foreign: Waltz with Bashir, because it's an awesome movie and the competition is worse. I wonder why they haven't considered Camorra from Italy which is better than both The Class and the Baader-Meinhof-Komplex. I don't even know why that movie is even nominated. Is this some kind of stupid-german-money honorary nomination? Cause the movie is really bad.

Rest I don't really care about

I haven't seen Slumdog.. that good, eh? I want to see Revolutionary Road too, but I wouldn't doubt Winslet here. She's great.

That would be hilarious if Tomei won again, but she really is quite good in the Wrestler.

Rourke and Ledger must win, damnit.

Best Picture: Frost/Nixon. I don't give much of a shit about the other ones.
Best Actor: Rourke - He's getting way too much buzz for even Langella's Nixon to win.
Best Actress: Probably Streep or Winslet, though I really couldn't give much of a shit about the movies these chicks are in.
Supporting Actor: - GODDAMNIT, better be Ledger. Though, this crew is to my mind much stronger than the Best Actor crew. I could see Downey winning it, but really, Ledger deserves it.
Supporting Actress: Tomei? Couldn't really give much of a shit outside of that.
Director: Fuck you, Oscars.
Screenplay: Fuck you, Oscars.
Original Screenplay: Fuck you, Oscars. In Bruges.

Yeah, Dark Knight got shafted like we knew it would. Visual effects? Please.

Cool didn't see that Hellboy 2 made it on the makeup award. I haven't been that impressed by makeup in a long time.

Funny how there's basically no competition in either makeup or in visual effects, for there to have been Dark Knight nominations in each category. Because it's pretty basic as far those two categories go.

edit - Oh wait, I forgot about Harvey Dent.

The plot and narrative in Dark Knight was kind of a mess.  The underlying theme is also pretty apologetic towards violations of civil rights to stop a madman/terrorist,  which is a tough sell for awards consideration.

No, it wasn't apologetic at all, but I think we've covered this ground before in the original Dark Knight thread.

Benjamin Button is nominated for 13 things? Good grief. I found this video funny of how they linked it to Forrest Gump.

Dark Knight was never going to get nominated for anything other than the technical achievement oscars with the exception of Ledger. As much as I loved it, the direction wasn't that great (Nolan still can't do action) the writing was above average but by no means exceptional (and I also don't think Wall-E should have been nominated either) and the acting was pretty meh.  But the art direction was great and the cinematography was exceptional.  Make-up is Hellboy 2 if there's any justice and sound editing (or sound mixing - whichever one Ben Burtt is up for) has to go to Wall-E.  It has to.

I highly doubt that TDK will get best VFX either but it's possible. Iron Man was stunning in terms of effects and the way they seamlessly blended CGI with practical models. Benjamin Button featured wall-to-wall VFX too from what I gather so I wouldn't be surprised if that won.

Waltz with Bashir will get best Foreign Film. Also surprised that Gomorrah didn't make it but even that wouldn't top Waltz.

Can't say about a lot of the films that have been nominated as they've not been released in the UK yet (Milk, Frost/Nixon out tomorrow, Revolutionary Road out next week, Benjamin Button and Vicky Christina Barcelona the week after that) I do know that the Frost/Nixon film that Jeff can't get a handle on is more than just the interview. It's a lot of the behind the scenes stuff and is all of the interviews that they did and all pretty much done as if it were a boxing film. And hey, it's not like actors haven't won for portraying real people before much is it?

Well Langella has a lot to live up to (for me personally) when I see it. I really liked Anthony Hopkins as Nixon, even though he didn't look a thing like him, nor sounded like him really. The character he played was highly interesting in itself.

Make-up is Hellboy 2 if there's any justice and sound editing (or sound mixing - whichever one Ben Burtt is up for) has to go to Wall-E.  It has to.
He's actually in both, though the way the names are listed I think Sound Editing would be considered his main category:

Sound Editing:
Ben Burtt and Matthew Wood

Sound Mixing:
Tom Myers, Michael Semanick and Ben Burtt

Ben's previous wins have been in Sound Editing as well:

http://www.oscar.com/nominees/?pn=detail&nominee=Wall-E%20-%20Sound%20Editing%20Nominee

Including his nomination this year for Sound Mixing for WALL-E, this is the eleventh Academy Award nomination for Ben Burtt. He was previously nominated for:

STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE (1999) -- Nominee, Sound Effects Editing
SPECIAL EFFECTS (1996) -- Nominee, Documentary (Short Subject)
INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (1989) -- Nominee, Sound
INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (1989) -- Winner, Sound Effects Editing
WILLOW (1988) -- Nominee, Sound Effects Editing
RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983) -- Nominee, Sound
RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983) -- Nominee, Sound Effects Editing
E.T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL (1982) -- Winner, Sound Effects Editing
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981) -- Winner, Special Achievement Award (Sound Effects Editing)

Burtt also received a Special Achievement Award in 1977 "for the creation of the alien, creature and robot voices featured in STAR WARS."

Best Picture: Marley and Me; everything else they actually nominated wasnt that spectacular. Slumdog was okay but best picture?  swamp poop  And Frost/Nixon should have been renamed Made up/Shit.
Best Actor: Mickey Rourke, "The Wrestler."
Best Actress: I didnt see a single film for which someone was nominated. So I nominate Jennifer Aniston from Marley and Me
Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, "The Dark Knight"
Supporting Actress: Marisa Tomei, "The Wrestler."
Director: WTF? None of this shit is that good. Fuck. I nominate who ever directed Bolt.
Foreign: Yeah like anyone gives a shit. American cultural imperialism FTW!
Adapted Screenplay: shit shit and shit. Wow you won an award from ripping off someone else's work and usually fucking it up.
Original Screenplay: Martin McDonagh, "In Bruges"
Animated Feature Film: I saw all three. Both Wall-E and Bolt were good. Im pulling for Bolt to finish in top place.
Art Direction: "The Dark Knight," Why isnt Hellboy 2 nominated here as well?
Cinematography: "The Dark Knight,"
Sound Mixing: No one cares
Sound Editing: No one cares
Original Score: No one cares
Original Song: No one cares
Documentary: Okay how the fuck was Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk not nominated? I actually went to the Imax premiere of this film and met Dr. Davis afterwards. Or Monster Camp about LARPers. How could you not like laughing at LARPers on screen?
Film Editing:
Makeup: "Hellboy II: The Golden Army."
Visual Effects: "Iron Man."

Mind you, these are what I think will win, rather than what I think should win:

Best Picture:  Slumdog Millionaire.  It has all the momentum right now, and is still winning awards and having articles written about it.
Best Actor:  Bit of a toss-up here.  Rourke won the Golden Globe, while Penn won at the SAG awards.  Penn will likely take the Oscar.
Best Actress: Meryl Streep
Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Supporting Actress: Kate Winslet
Director: Danny Boyle
Foreign: Waltz With Bashir
Screenplay: Slumdog Millionaire
Original Screenplay: Milk
Animated:  Kung Fu Panda
Art Direction: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Cinematography: Slumdog Millionaire
Sound Mixing: The Dark Knight
Sound Editing: Iron Man
Original Score: Milk, Danny Elfman
Original Song: Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire
Film Editing: Slumdog Millionaire
Makeup: Benjamin Button
Visual Effects: Benjamin Button

Rourke will win Best Actor over Penn.
Original Screenplay is still quite likely to go to In Bruges

I love In Bruges, but it has an uphill battle here in the U.S., and Milk won the Best Original Screenplay award at the WGA awards.  I'd rather see Rourke take the Best Actor award, but I think Penn has the advantage.
There's a good chance Wall-E will win Animated, but personally I thought Kung Fu Panda was the better movie.  Of course I'm on good terms with some of the folks from Dreamworks, so I might be a bit biased.
