Lousy mother fuckers. I knew it was going to happen. Yes, yes. I know. Don't overreact as they'll most likely go away within the first week or so, but I really would rather wait to kill mobs while in the game than sit outside it waiting. From a dev: Server queues are put in to limit the amount of people located in the new player area. When thousands of people are in the same area is causes the server to lag. Once players begin to spread out from the new player areas the caps will be increased.
Translation: our servers cannot handle a large amount of players in one area. We never could fix that problem so we stuck with the workaround. Good luck with large scale PvP after you spend your time and money leveling up. Have a nice day. -Blizzard

Ooooooh, new grief tactic....congregate at new player areas so other people can't play.
That's gonna be a good one.
Bring the noise. Cheers............

There was a "bug" where players would not be able to log in due to "server full" yet the server showed low loads, according to some descriptions on the boards. They "fixed" this "bug", my guess is by changing the definition of "server load" to depend on the cap, rather than the maximum the server can take.
In other words, they've capped the servers at "low" load levels.

I set up my account and logged in, just to see... I think I'll wait a while to play. I just don't have the patience for all those people. It was a crazy house and people are beginning to get testy. If you play, it's a good day to delete your chat window.

Just for kicks I took a look at the Blizzard forums for the first time since early beta. I think my IQ just dropped 10 points... and I really can't spare that many.

Lousy mother fuckers. I kept suggesting my first week of closed beta that they need to instance the newbie areas, and do it like City of Heroes (zone too full, server automatically creates duplicate zone #2). You cant really build a huge newbie area. After the first initial push, it’s a waste of space to have a gigantic starting area. But then again you cant have a small starting area either. You need a –dynamic- starting area. This problem will go away in a few days. I would rather have this than crashing servers, or too few servers, or countless other clusterfucks that could be going on right now. This game more popular then anything I have seen. It really could be a billion times worse.

They coded it so that the spawn rates respond to population pressure. It's sort of hard to have instanced zones in a zoneless world I would imagine. Although to be honest I want to go there and be part of the crowd, it's a tale you'll be boring the crap out of people with for years to come.
That said, the official forums cause me to lose all faith in humanity.

It's sort of hard to have instanced zones in a zoneless world I would imagine. But its not a zoneless world. This game has instances in it, which are separated by portal entrances. The code does exist on the servers to handle an instance situation. The newbie areas are fully enclosed areas, all of them. They are all completely encircled by hills and/or mountains, with usually one exit road or valley. They could have easily instanced the entire newbie area, which would take care of those from level 1 to 5. The problem might arise at the place where all the instances exit, i.e. a bunch of people exiting and standing around. There could be multiple exit points, all around a general starting area that is much bigger than the initial newbie area. Once you exit the level 1 to 5 area, you don’t go back. You go forward into the lands. Too late now for the idea. Too bad the asshats on the WoW forums have zero patience or understanding for anything like this.

I'm just passing by to relive my mmog opening day festivities vicariously through the suffering of others. I played AO and WW2OL at release (among too many others to list). I've paid my dues.

The queue is a pretty good idea, but mainly imo to help distribute players more evenly across servers in general. You're likely to change servers when the first one you pick has a 30 min. wait time to get in. Considering some servers have probably 2-3x the pop. of other servers (*cough* archimonde), this should actually be fairly helpful in balancing server pop. and good in the longrun.
Hopefully of course. It would suck ass if your guild picked a heavily populated server, but who's fault is that really?

After reading my post, I realize it makes me look like one of those pre-pubescent blizzard fanbois. The queue is really crappy. It still might be helpful in the longrun, but don't get me wrong, it sucks.

It would suck ass if your guild picked a heavily populated server, but who's fault is that really? Whiney players all pick Archimonde, even though there's a ton of other PVP servers. Archimonde's newb areas get flooded with people. Blizzard does the right thing, and enables a que system. Whiney players then whine on the forums. Par for the course. The game still rocks, despite the whineys.

The bitchers are hilarious on the forums. ALL of them that are complaining are on Central PvP servers. These are the same asshats the remind me why I'm not setting foot into those cesspools. Some going on and on about lag. I'm thinking, you're bitching about lag...on the first day...when everyone is in the same place. Morons. The fact that the servers haven't crashed under the weight is a triumph.

Wouldn't it be cool if there were Anti-AssHat servers? Forget RP servers, gimme an AAH server! If you get 10 AssHat votes -BAM!- you can't play on tha server.. go play on one of the AssHat servers.
It could work!

A queue system for a MMOG really has got to suck. I would rather be in there with lag than be told I have to wait my turn. Talk about teh suck.

Just got back from lunch. Setup account, logged into Mal'Ganis without issue and saw an asspack of newbs running around doing the lowbie quests. Took a little over thirty minutes to hit 4th and log out.
The fact that the PvP servers are the packed servers speaks of potentially good things to come. Even more than Shadowbane's launch and nodd to PvP being a viable model, I think WOW just might push it into the mainstream.

Or, make it so you only have 10 votes (and only one per player (not character)). Choose wisely, and AssHat those who truely deserve it. Of course, they could always AssHat you back.. but if they actually get dropped from the server that AssHat vote would go away.

A guild of 10+ people could effectively boot anyone they wanted from the server by coordinating their votes. If the votes are never redeemed, you can count on griefers to join the server about 6 months later, after most folks have already burned their asshat votes on guys who disagreed with them on which flavor of roleplaying kung fu was superior. Bring the noise. Cheers............

People can't even handle the thought of RP violations being reported on the RP server. So, good luck with the Asshat thing.

Ten votes is too small. Make it 100 and you're closer to something. Also, you'd have to limit the number of votes one person could hand out to one a week/month. That, and have a vote count as a strike against yourself. In reality it would never hold up. Griefers could just switch accounts and be right back in the fray the next month.

It's probably not worth the expense and time it would take to instance all the newbie zones when you will only need to use more than one instance for the first couple days. People who bought and play the game the first day are by and large addicts already, you don't have to worry about them not paying.

Hell, if I cause a griefer grief by making him go out and buy another copy of the game for $50 just so he can be on the same server, that would be worth it. Besides, he'd have to start his characters over too.

Now there's a message on the login screen asking people to pick Pacific or Mountain time servers since the Eastern and Central have so many people on them.

Found this sort of funny. I think they're all overcrowded by now. And unfortunately, the playerbase will probably increase over the next few days; not everyone waited in line at Fry's and/or has the game already.

Found this sort of funny. Dear God, my eyes. Its almost like we need to start posting warnings about linking to the WoW boards - like with Vault linkage. Anyway, its the silly season - shouldn't everyone be going to christmas parties and getting drunk and stuff? I'm leaving WoW until the new year, when hopefully all this crap (and the inevitable bugs/nerfs etc) will have died down.

Hate to add to the whining here, but the queues really are fucking stupid. I waited in a queue for about an hour last night, doing other stuff and occasionally checking back to see my status. I manage to get on, get two quests and SLAP! my server goes down.
I'm waiting in queues for... what exactly? I'd also like to personally thank all the asshat guilds who decided they'd locate on the Central servers and announced that beforehand, ensuring that those servers would fill up faster than the line at the "Free hot dog for stupidest Vault post" booth.
No, they didn't learn anything from Open Beta, except that people will endure lots of bullshit to play their game. Including me, who should have known better.

Its ironic that Blizzard's attempt to segregate by time zone simply led to guilds splitting the difference and all going central. The internet, it seems, insists on being global.
