First off, the Beta client will patch and work. There's a few minutes worth of patching, but by the time you get done setting up an account on Blizzard's page it's done and you're ready to play.

Logged into the central server list. All 4 PvP servers were listed as "Heavy" population, 2 PvE servers were "medium", and 2 PvE servers were "Light". I logged onto Mal'Garis or whatever and camped all the names I'll ever want and then logged in with my mighty, mighty Tauren Shaman MuhuBob. Absolutely no lag or performance issues I could see, and also no delay in connecting or loggin in. The newbie zone was crowded but workable.  They didn't increase the spawns or spawn rates at all which will suck bags of hell tonight, but it took me about 45 minutes to make level 6 and complete all the quests in the newbie town. SInce I was was free to leave Retardoland at any point now I hung out in town and people watched. As far as CE pets go, Mini-Diablo, Level 1 Lord of Mini-Terror is nothanxsux, at least for taurens. He's like the size of their hooves and you can't even see what the hell he is. Plus, He's what everyone but two people had. Those two had a zergling, which looked good with tauren, and a panda, which also looked good - in a Hello Kitty kind of way - but not as ghey as mini-diablo or Bruce.  By the time I logged out at 11:45 the population had increased quite a bit, by about 400% I'd guestimate.

I heard that the servers went live not long after 1 AM EST, which is rather earlier than people were expecting, I think.  I haven't started yet... thought I'd wait for Righ to get home as I consider it romantic to begin a game together... but I look forward to those first n00b killing quests.  Oh yes.

Thanks for the front line report!  I hope I get to see what you're like when you're not AFK this time around! ;p

Here's a gem.

Admittedly, it was only a matter of time.

When you get chastised by the members of a Blizzard game's forum for being a dumbfuck, you may actually earn the title of "Lord High King of the DumbFucks."

It's not obvious really why you should need a credit card to activate the account. I expect a lot of immediate returns to the shop once people get to that point - is the loss from this lower then what you gain from people who do activate it, and then just forget to cancel it even when they don't play anymore after one month ?

With game time cards included, it of course becomes really silly. You can play without a credit card, but the game time cards won't come out for a week. So you can't play right now.

Australian stores were selling the game a day beforehand so me and most of my guild logged on straight away when the servers came up, I am now lvl 19 :)

When I first logged in there was only 1 other person in the Tauren newbie area.  Was nice to breeze through the early levels with no competition.

They should ban Europeans, Asians, Kiwis and especially Aussies from the NA servers... and I don't just mean the ones that live there.    Australians irritate me with all their beer and wet tee shirt contests.  They also seem to be annoyingly cheerful.  What's THAT all about?

They should think about blocking Canadians and Mexicans, too.

I think WoW is just FUBAR tonight.  I can't find any server that I can get into. After some searching earlier I found a western PvP server I could get to (Dragonmaw), and 2 minutes later there was a server message that it was coming down.

So, yeah.

Gee...considering I don't drink, missed out on the wet t-shirts thing and am a miserable, bitter, bastard...maybe I can pass as more or a limey residing in the states?

How about them Americans? :P

Americans are just fine where they are.  All in one place, on one server, where I can avoid them.

Thanks to the magic of Brooke Burke's amazing breasts on a cable show called Wild On!, it's now common knowledge that Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Cancun, and Ibiza all border each other on one landmass and are all populated entirely by college whores on spring break running around in bras and panties rendered transparent by the copious amounts of beer they've dumped over themselves. Go Go American knowledge of geography and demographics. Oh well, maybe we'll invade you soon and accidentally discover New Zealandars are white. And you guys use a dollar as your currency too, right? That should cause endless problems for our boys liberating you from Al Queda.

LOL!

Some of my mates used to comment "Where are all those fine sheilas in those commercials for Sydney?!"

My response: "California."

"That's in NSW, right?" :P
