I'm very interested in SFIV online play, so it looks like I'm buying a console. Since I don't have any experience playing over XBL or the PS@Home (whatever they call it now. I do own a PSP), I'm only interested in key technical issues that are related to multiplayer fighters.
Which service is more reliable in terms of lag and connection persistence? I have a WL500G about 20 ft from the den with a cable connect. What's the best arcade controller for XB360 vs PS3, if someone could point me to a linky? That $150 XB360 one can't be worth it.
I might pick up DCvsMK and VF5, so I'm not interested in achievements or arcade downloads or any other stuff, just fighters, online.

PS3's controller is better for fighters, but you are most likely going to end up with an arcade stick anyway. The analog stick on the 360 just doesn't perform well for the kind of moves you do in street fighter. With HD Remix both perform about the same online, but the PS3 version has a few more bugs.
You are stuck with the Hori Ex2 on both systems for now, but apparently the mad catz controller coming out with Street Fighter 4 is actually good (I know, it sounds crazy.) They are actually using the same parts used in japanese arcade machines.
BlazBlu looks like it is going to be PS3 exclusive so that should probably lean you in the PS3 direction. Plus the online play for PS3 is free while it costs you a monthly fee on the Xbox.

I was interested until I saw screenshots of Chun Li. Game informer called it accurately: severe manhands. Chun Li's hands should not be larger than E.Honda's! And her thighs? How does she walk with those huge tree trunks?

I don't know much about comparable latency, etc.
Soul Calibur 4 is available on both.
Soul Calibur 1 is on XBLA, not sure about PSN.
I believe both support online play.
DOA 4(?) is on 360, I don't think it's on PS3, not sure if it's online though.
The latest couple of WWE games on 360 support online play, again not sure if they do on PSN or if they're available on PS3 or if you're interested in the wrestling sub-genre of fighters.

Those WWE games any good? They look like the old THQ wrestling games from the N64 (WCW vs NWO and WWF Wrestlemania) and those game were actually pretty fun multiplayer games. They still have the simple grapple and press button for move system?

WARNING!!! HUGE BATTLESHIP "HAMMER FRENZY" APPROACHES!!!!
Anyway, yeah, SF4 should be fun, but they are not even sure if they will be using the GGPO style net code they used with HD Remix, which in my opinion is really, really good. For fighting games, I would, at this time, get a 360, only cause there is more fighting games for that system with a larger playerbase. That being said, the PS3 has a larger library of fighting games with the PS2 stuff, so that is a huge thing to consider as well. You shouldn't buy the system based on SF4 though, cause unless the net code is being used from HD Remix, or Ponder is helping with the sf4 code, then it will not be that great, not only that, SF4 has a lot of inputs that could be lost in the online play mode, like the focus attack canceling etc.
Either way, whichever system you get, GET AN ARCADE STICK. don't let anyone tell you that you can play just as well on a pad because that is BS. Your're never as accurate on a pad as you are on a stick and let's be honest, even though the ps3 pad is better than the 360 pad, no one that plays SF would choose that over a stick, it is a freaking handicap.

The PS3 collector's edition comes with the video on blu-ray and a ryu action figure. The 360 one comes with a video on a 360 disc and a lameass stupid new character figure.
Making the right decision is not hard.
Edit: Also, I'm getting the madcats sanwa stick, the one build from the same stuff as the SF4 cab.

HD Remix is good enough for me. Although, if they redid the sprites for Marvel vs Capcom 2 and sold it online (needless to say, but for under $20), I'd buy that too.

I think latest statement is they aren't using GGPO because they don't have the processing power to pull it off on the consoles. The graphics are apparently eating up too much power. However, they claim the code they do have is GGPO-like. I really hope they aren't BSing or delusional and that the net code they have is actually good.

Didn't they hire the guy that did the GGPO code or at least bring him on for consulting? It would make sense that it's based on that.

That being said, the PS3 has a larger library of fighting games with the PS2 stuff, so that is a huge thing to consider as well. Which is great if you can get a PS3 with backwards compatibility. Which I did before they stripped it out in these newer models.

Whichever system you decide to get it on, make sure you get a stick or two. The madcatz stick should be pretty good, but the hori sticks on both systems are also perfectly fine. I am using a Hori EX2 on the 360 and it has been really good to me. I picked up two of them and switch up here and there so they get the same wear on them. It is nice to have 2 in the event a friend comes over and they don't have a stick, plus they are good to have around for your XBL/PSN arcade games and stuff.
On another note, I have seen videos and people claiming that although the HD Remix game is mostly identical on the PS3/360, that the online play is a little better on the 360, (which I have experienced many times myself, the ps3 one crashed more often the 360 one on multiple occasions) and you will have more comp on the 360, keep in mind that there are a lot of jerks on the 360 version, that being said many of the good players from SRK play on the 360 version and I have no trouble finding matches with decent players on the 360 and for the most part my experience with HD Remix online has been positive with the exception of the occasional asshat that needs to get put in his place.
Like I mentioned before, don't base what system you get on this game alone, because chances are you will eventually get bored with SF4, (unless you are an avid fighting game player and will mostly play sf4) and start looking at other stuff to play, in which case you should get the system that has the games you like on it. I am personally way into that 360, it has all the games I like on it, and all my friends play it. then again, Schild swears up and down that the 360 is trash and that there is no reason to buy it. Just make sure whichever system you get, you are looking at the rest of the library too. I love the shit out of SF and will play SF4 like crazy, but once the comp dies down, or people see that although it is quite fun and very much like old school SF, it has some new stuff in there that will have some people scratching their heads and calling BS on it. Mid to high level SF4 stuff is brutal as hell, then again, HD Remix is just flat out brutal as hell in its own right.
