Come on though, RE5 and SF4?....

Very much so, RE4 reinvented the damned genre and RE5 adds coop.

And SF4 is a much needed jolt to the fighting community and is supposed to be goddamn superb. Though I'm almost as stoked for KoF XII as well.

I am, but without wishing to turn this into one those exciting PC v Console threads, tell me wtf on that list is exciting even if I was willing to put up with console shit, because it looks like an unusually poor Q1.

Last year you had GTA4 for starters.

I had fun with the Resident Evil 5 demo.  After playing L4D, RE5 might have a hard time competing in the co-op zombie killing department, but I'm still really looking forward to it.

Street Fighter IV looks likes a good bit of nostalgia (SF2 is really the only fighting game I ever got hooked on).  If you look back in the thread where it was announced, I started off pretty skeptical of SFIV, but they've sold me on it.

If I owned a Wii, I'd be getting really excited for MadWorld.

I liked the first Star Ocean 4 trailer that was shown.  Haven't followed it much since then, but I'll keep an eye on the reviews when it comes out and go from there.

Heard a lot of good things about Dawn of War II.  I imagine fans of the first one will probably like this one also.

Jain, we agree on a lot of things, you're just 100x the nerd I am and have shit taste in new games because you're an obsessive freak about old ones. Short of that, prior to 1995 or so, our tastes probably line up (other than shitty stuff where you're just wrong, like Dragon Quest). I, however, got the fuck over being a nostalgic dorkburgler whereas you didn't. awesome, for real

Whenever I feel almost bad about giving you shit, you just have to make me realize I need to fuck with you more.

I'm not excited about Madworld. When I first read about the game I thought it was very cool; but when I saw it in action something about its execution left me with a cold feeling.

I recently learned that this, House of the Dead *yawns* and The COnduit (another game I'm not excited about after seeing it in action) will be at comic con NY so I'm interested in buying a ticket just to demo these games. It also won't hurt to see what Comic Con is like for the first time ever.

You're not excited about Mad World but you have a small obsession with Darkfall? Do you even fucking know who's working on Mad World? I'll just assume you don't.

The only thing I knew of before you asked was some members from Viewtiful Joe are part of the team. I've looked a little closer at the pedigree of platinumgames and the team is impressive.

That still doesn't make up for the fact whenever I watch the trailers in action they put me off and I'm the kind of guy who gleefully enjoyed over the top splatterfests like Sin City or Tarantino films or games like Quake3.

My attitude may change when I demo it.

If you pay for the travel fees I can go to platinumgames office right now instead of consuming whatever their marketing team cooks up for us on the internet. Don't bother offering pointless advice.

Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime.

If all you've seen is a trailer, you're probably not particularly fit to judge something. Knowing where something comes from is as important if not more so (particularly before any said game releases). Now, it's entirely possible that it'll be shit. It's happened before (most notably - and recently - with Mistwalker and Blue Dragon & Lost Odyssey). But I fully expect people to know who worked on those games before they came out if they were going to give their opinions of it.

You know the folks working on some MMOGs, why not know the folks working on console games? Of course, this problem extends to a lot of designers in the industry who haven't played enough games and end up making the same mistakes over and over. I'd like to think I can hold people to a higher standard though.

tl;dr - Teach yourself and don't open your mouth if the only thing in it is dick.

If you want Phantasy Star or Shining Force, you could always get some of them on the Wii's Virtual Console as well. The Shining Force port is pretty good, and they just released Phantasy Star IV which I'm considering picking up. So emulators or the PS3 or Gametap or whatever isn't the only option for those.

I have no idea how you could look at Mad World trailers and not get a huge gamer chubby.

Shit, I looked up Madworld and got excited (mainly because of the style & art direction), and I don't even own any console systems, let alone a Wii.

Typically I ignore anything that isn't developed for PC or at least have a port in the works.

I've got the Dreamcast Genesis Pack that had PS2 on it.  (I think it has SF1 on it too.) I have the GBA cart with PS 1, 2, and 3 on it.

I bought the PS2 Genesis collection with PS 2, 3, and 4 on it.  I bought the GBA Shining Force 1 remake.

And why spend 6-8 bucks per Shining game when I can drop 30 and get 30+ games?

I show my love for Sega.  Sega just likes to hit me like we are in some Lifetime movie of the week.

"I love you Sega.  Here is your dinner.  Can.. can I please have Sega Ages PS2 Remakes?"

Instead they just beat us and release more shitty Sonic games everyone hates.   Heartbreak

How about you stop throwing feces at the keyboard over someone else stating their opinion? I even implied I learned about the game before watching a trailer. It was the trailers that drained away that excitement. Your god complex won't stop me from expressing my opinion no more than I can stop you from being a pretentious jerk. Do you still want the last word? Ohhhhh, I see.

It's really because I don't go around picking fights with people unlike schild. I actually can't believe the absurdity of an admin who has the first line in a reminder before registering:

If there's one thing we're tolerant of, it's blatant ban evasion.    why so serious?

If anyone wants a clarification of unwritten rule #245:  if you're an annoying, new-fish, moron that we'd really like to ban but probably won't; challenging a mod/admin to shut you up is a pretty easy ticket out the door.

Not sure if these were already listed. Two odds and ends..

Space and air combat is one of my favorite things, so I'm looking forward to Tom Clancy Hawx (especially since I own a PS3 and lack the Ace Combat series).

Stormrise (console rts) looks kind of cool. I think some of the Total War guys are involved? [edit] Actually, yeah.. It's from them. So basically their first sci-fi title?

I'm not sure what this is supposed to be mean though. Wikipedia:

A change in scenery won't be the only divergence, however. Rather than Total War's detached, general's-armchair view of battlefields, players will assume the role of frontline commander. The Creative Assembly will also introduce an element of "verticality," where units can be deployed in the air, on rooftops, at ground level, or below the planet's surface.

Frontline commander? Hmm..

Stormrise is coming on the PC as well. That trailer looks pretty awesome - though I'm thinking while it was rendered with the in-game engine, an in-game battle won't be quite that dynamic. Maybe - Dawn of War had some of the same kind of dynamic animations. Still, cool trailer.

I'm really not so sure what's supposed to make it console specific, but that's what they bill it as - even at the end of the trailer. It gets a console first release too. So heads up! It might be a completely different thing once it hits PC's, who knows.

That's a much better theme and protagonist than the original. Nico is lame.

[edit] That old Biker dude looks a helluva lot like Brian Cox (umm Striker in X2, among plenty of other things). I wonder if he's voicing him.
