I've been into it lately. No PvP, and sporadic on which characters I'm playing though. Maybe I'll finish one of the campaigns eventually.

I've got the original and have been thinking about picking up the box with the two expansions. This was another game that seemed really fun at first and then went meh.

I was drinking when I wrote this, so sue me if it goes astray.

I have all three expansions, but it's currently uninstalled and I'm not sure I feel like putting it back in. I caught myself about to start grinding faction in Eye of the North to get Asuran Armor and realized that my brain was going back into poopsock territory and I could spend my time doing things that were actually fun.

If you can catch it on a weekend they're offering increased XP it seems to fly by. I did that for the Norn and basically with clearing one area a couple of times I got rank 5 and my Norn Armor. Mostly I go about doing quests and mapping areas, or collecting skills and trying out builds.

If you enjoy collecting, this is a wonderful game to play. I leveled a bunch of different toons up to 20 just to get a variety of playstyles. After getting all the powers available for one of them, I quickly lost interest. GW is a wonderful game in the short term and the lack of a monthly sub fee makes it an easy choice to pop in and out of.

This game was *so close* for me that I have more faith in Guild Wars 2 than most of the stuff on the near-horizon. GW2 sure is taking a long ass time though.

Given the too-early releases we usually see, I'm okay with that if it's a good game.

The same skill swapping system + persistent world, please! Edit: Oh, and I'd like to be able to jump.

My wife and I honestly really loved Guild Wars - the art direction was nothing short of breathtaking, the server system was fantastic, and the easy of entry was great. It was a game which really kept the notion of "Simple to start, difficult to master".
That being said, a persistent world would have been much better and felt more alive. I think they'll be doing something like that this time around. The fact that we haven't heard anything from them for a while is probably a good thing - I would much rather they come out and say, "Surprise! We've been developing awesomeness, and it's nearly done!" rather than pull a Mythic and hype the shit out of it for years and raise the expectation bar so high it can never be reached.
With a toning down of companion NPC requirements and perhaps taking a stab at doing real RvR, there might be a chance for something amazing here. I can't wait until they start letting us take a peek.

Something about quests in Guildwars was always 'off' for me. I would always end up starting a escort without realizing it, or not understand how the lever works the catapult or whatever. I also never quite got the feel for the 'tanking' in GuildWars. There is also the issue of overlapping 'bonus quest mobs' if you take too many quests at once. I love pretty much everything else though. It runs on toaster powered PC's, it has a dynamic and entertaining class/skill system, the abilities themselves are unique and balanced AND NO FUCKING FINITE MANA

I always go back to this game for about a month around Christmas for some reason. Probably because it actually plays well on my laptop on the sofa at the in-law's.
