You're a conqueror, take some space by force!
Indeed, I have conquered both my fear of failure and greed for success. Truly I'm like Rudyard Kipling's If. But yes, have been wandering around doing just that - and mostly finding that the quantum rise patch doesn't seem to have made fleet fights any less laggy than I remember from 2 years ago - POS up in the next few days I hope - just don't tell anyone where Whose fleets are you fighting in? PS this week's release wasn't measnt to make fights less laggy: that was the pre-patch set of changes six weeks or so ago. And if you think those haven't basically got rid of lag in any but the least prepared node with the highest number of opponents then I dunno what fleet fights you were in before, because the last time I fought in Feyth I had 10 minute module lag, and now it is virtually non-existent. Usually, the trouble seems to be people who get 1fps and blame CCP for their awful overview settings. When flying a HAC in fleet fights I sometimes swap to a view that shows everything, so I can see where I am relative to the two lines of battle and whether drones are heading my way. That will freeze me up, and I pity those who actually fly with the on-screen iconography showing.

Yesterday, I was mostly wandering around the fountain region ...
Well, my ancient history is with -V- back when they were fighting RA, and things are (for me at least) clearly a lot better now than then - having been away for a few (eighteen to twenty four) months, my expectations weren't particularly trashed by the small fleet fight yesterday. But we jumped a gang of 30 into an unprepared node where another gang of 30 was - slowish grid load and a lot of spam on ventrilo about people lagging out on targeting and firing modules is what led to me saying 'things don't seem better' - it's probably not a fair or particularly accurate judgement; so I retract subject to further evidence as I was getting a happy 30-40 fps, and literally had the overview set to 'only reds < BS' as I was in a support craft - no drones, no fighters, no BS, no veldspar ;-) Usually, the trouble seems to be people who get 1fps and blame CCP for their awful overview settings. When flying a HAC in fleet fights I sometimes swap to a view that shows everything, so I can see where I am relative to the two lines of battle and whether drones are heading my way. That will freeze me up, and I pity those who actually fly with the on-screen iconography showing.
Actually, a bit of advice I'd appreciate is just what I should be flying these days that's considered valuable in fleet - I'm not a turret specialist, most everything is in missiles/ecm/shield tanking + interdictors etc. I used to fly a lot of scorpion/falcon/pvp blackbird type ships to provide fleet support, but now it seem the only ECM people take with them are multispec falcons. I haven't seen one of my beloved scorps (first BS I ever bought - tried to run a L3 mission in it before I understood what ECM was used for) at all.

It's off-topic for this thread but ECM is godlike, and falcons find it hard to do anything but pwn right now: I've been flying around ZS- for a week in one, and we've not lost a single ship while I was on grid in the falcon. That includes when Headseed, (obviously entirely against my advice), engaged in a thorax against a claw, vaga, falcon, falcon and cerberus after jumping in. I got simultaneous jams on everything except one falcon, which was 350km away on the far side of the gate. But don't go out in a falcon with multispecs. Smash did that, and look what happened to them. Multispecs jam less, use more cap, and have shorter range. I fit one of each racial and an extra minnie, usually, though if my enemy used a different balance of ships (pulseapocs) I'd change that.

Do you still use a plate fit? the cause the align time will be pretty bad now though nothing but an overheated inty will catch you.

I'm going to escape, come back, wipe this place off the face of the Earth, obliterate it and you with it.

Used to be plate in the lows + armour rep if you had one spare low, mids full of ECM and hi cloak + remote rep + cyno

No need for a plate now if you fit 2 projector rigs and use the 3 lows for sig strength. 200-250km off and it takes a while for an inty (and more importantly his support) to reach you. In that time you can jam and get moving.

Pred's right: nothing they have can hit me at anything like 210km, and even their inties are taking forever to get close enough for me to change spots. Plus, even a plate wouldn't matter since I align before uncloaking and can instawarp away any time.
I just wish I had a buddy in an eagle to sit alongside me and pop the inties that fly towards me. One of the huginn or muninn can do this too, I think?

Yeh 200km is still a long way and inties are only goin 5-8km/s now, I think Nozh is looking at ECM range & ECCM according to Zulupark's Q & A. I personally think ECCM is a tad underpowered, I tried using two ECCM against a gang with Falcon once didn't manage to lock anything for long enough to get any joy and 200km range is ridiculous when compared to the other ECM. One thing I don't like about it is it causes or at least should cause a no fight situation, if you have two small gangs and another has a Falcon. A good FC will usually back away and though I know it's great cause you fly the things and love being FOTM for a change, but like speed it's not healthy for the game. Oh and I'm actually pretty happy with the balancing they have done since the first SISI rollout, I'm surprised it's a good job by CCP in the end.

The problem with the Falcon is not ECM in general. Its that its just as strong at ECM as a rook, the recon that doesn't cloak.

Well this is true, but if you wait until the fight has started before uncloaking, then you normally get a few good fights

My Dominix for ages never left dock without at least one Eccm. You might say it sucks but there is nothing worse than being stuck not able to do anything and nothing better than continuing to cause carnage on twats that are so used to people not fighting back that they have no idea how to deal with a t2 drone Dominix that has just been made bloody angry. {edit}
