Blizzard fires the first shot over Mythic's bow.  I'm interested in the quality of pvp here, the popularity of the mechanics, and Mythic's response.

Interesting.

I admit I only skimmed the article, but I didn't see what I was looking for in there. Have Blizzard said how they're going to address population imbalances in Wintergrasp?
Some servers are heavily skewed to one side or the other.

They talked about that at Blizzcon.  There's an interesting buff that increases the damage (and possibly other stats) of the less populated side.  So theoretically, if you're outnumbered 4 to 1, you do 4x as much damage and can thus take on larger groups of enemies yourself.

This is months old news.  Stuff not mentioned in article:
1. As far as I can tell, you need a flying mount to get there.
2. If your side wins, a special one-boss raid instance opens up that drops PVP gear.
3. The winning side gets a northrend-wide +5% experience bonus and all bosses in dungeons drop 'stone keeper shards', which are like the Auchidoun spirit shards.

I admit I only skimmed the article, but I didn't see what I was looking for in there. Have Blizzard said how they're going to address population imbalances in Wintergrasp?

As your side loses matches over and over, your faction gets a larger and larger buff.

Looks cool, but its to bad (IMO) that WoW PvP is pointless and stupid, and horribly broken for any kind of true competition to happen.

Did you actually read the webpage?

I don't consider the rewards for wintergrasp to be pointless at all.

There are daily quests you can do in Wintergrasp (such as some kill players quests, as well as some profession-based and other PvE ones) that will net you Stone Keeper's Shards.

You spend these to get metagems, metagem recipes, and head/shoulder enchants, that are attack power + resil, or spellpower + resil.

In addition, you can also pick up Wintergrasp Commendations - http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44115 - they are bind to account, so it's a quick way to get alts some honor, if you mail them around.

But that Captain's salami tray was tight, yo. You plump for the roast pork loin, dogg?

I was not referring to the rewards, i was referring to the PvP in Wow, and its mechanics. I said the zone looked cool.

A buff for being outnumbered seems like it might work... but does it only count participating players or include idling ones? I imagine much abuse on the population-heavy side aimed at those awkward, inexperienced players who are perceived as "wasting space" and "buffing the enemy".

A buff for losing repeatedly will just lead to continuous losses by the population-light side, the majority of players simply waiting until the buffs get big enough to guarantee a win and then flooding into the battle to take part.

if at last you do succeed, never try again
