...are no longer required as of 3.0.3

Both Paladin and Warlock epic steeds are trainable at Lvl 61 after purchase of riding skill. No idea of the quest chains are actually being removed (although I'm guessing that as the quests were available at 60 and the training is available at 61 then perhaps not).

Druid flight form is also becoming trainable at 71

I understand why they're doing this but I'm not impressed. Take out the ZA bear mount so that it keeps the "prestige" of having got it before nerfing the bosses but entirely undermine the prestige of the lock/pally epic quests? Good going.

Not to mention it's impossible to do the Alliance Seal judging with the new paladin system.

I think that's the primary reason behind it - especially when everyone's going to be in Northrend come the expansion. On the other hand, it still makes doing the quest difficult (although it'll be highly soloable at lvl 80) so even more of an achivement to get it done.

I'm more pissed because I'm on the cusp of finishing it: I did half the gathering back when the requirements were ridiculously high and did all the rest of the quests recently including getting the Scholo key and am doing the Scholo run tonight with a few people from my guild who want the achivement. If they remove the quest before I get to do DM then I won't be happy.  I'd also be prepared to do the Blood Charger quest on my pally when he's 60 rather than just pay for it.

Huh. I wonder if they changed that fight with the new patch.

Get a better guild or make some friends? It's not like Locks and Pallies couldn't get normal mounts too.

Flight form at 71? Isn't that a nerf since they already get flight form at 68?

I think this is indicative that they've left the quests in place: you can either do the quest at 68 or wait until 71 and pay. Haven't seen confirmation of this yet though.

That is true.  Also, we have a ton of people leveling up and lots of 70's jump at the chance to burn through those oldies but goodies.  It really depends on how tight you are in a guild.  I recently got a full group of 70's to help me with my warrior through Scholo and Strat.  It is so quick now, not many have a problem fitting it into their schedules.

The expansion will only increase this trend since DK's start at mid-50's right? (or has that changed again?)  I'm pretty sure they "start" in that same zone (unless that has changed too!)

I'm glad they're making this change.  My main is a warlock who got to the Dire Maul portion a couple of months after BC was released.  My wee, casual guild at the time was not strong enough to support that run and hardly anyone else was running the instance.  The only way I got it was constantly doing a /who for Dire Maul and finally convincing another warlock to summon me in to talk to the steed once they finished.

The warlock event was a fun one but at this point with northrend coming out its day has passed its to hard to get folks to do it and most the time you will be getting some level 70 or future level 80 to just mow it down for you which defeats the whole purpose of the fight anyway. It was fun it was a good memory but the change they are doing to make it buyable is a good one.

We 3-manned the whole chain with a 70 warrior (me) and a 60ish paladin and the 60ish warlock in question.  It was iffy at times, which made it fun, but it wasn't too bad.

I agree that the final fight was very innovative and much more interesting than the usual tank & spank.  Hopefully they leave it in for old time's sake :sadf:

When I levelled up a warlock, I did the quests to get the Felsteed and am glad I did.  The final battle is definitely a cool experience, and the whole idea of stealing a felsteed was pretty slick.

I am currently getting a belf pally to 70, and just blew by the Charger quest chain.  I would like to do them, but there just seems to be no point now with flying mounts a few levels away and Wrath a month away.  I have read / heard that the paladin quests were very "paladinish," so I would like to do the chain someday........

Now it appears that I'll be able to train for the mount....and I'm ok with that.  I'll look better on that then this stupid purple ostrich!

I'm glad I did the quest for the felsteed too since it only amounted to a trainer telling me to go to Ratchet and a warlock NPC at Ratchet just handing me a summon felsteed spell. Ohhhhh, I see.

What fucking prestige? Seriously, I did my Pally's one a few months ago (ok, I started it pre-BC, but never got around to finioshing it). Me and 3 friends just went through and annihilated DM and the rest. There may have been prestige for doing them when the cap was 60, but these days, let alone when there are 80s running around? No. No prestige there, for quite some time.

 why so serious?

I finally did this last night and yeah, it's very cool.  My guild, slack arse bastards, said they'd do a Scholo run with me last night. I logged on at 6:30 and they said they'd already done it.  (New guild - may turn out to be all 15 year olds) So I went up there on the off chance to see if I could stand a chance of soloing (at 64: answer = no), a mage and warrior turned up and ran me through. Then we went to Strath for kicks (which I'd never done before - that's a cool place) and then a lock mate who still had the mats took me to DM and we did the quest.  DM is cool (from what I saw). I hate the fact that I mostly solo the game so don't get to see a lot of the great design in the instances.

Anyway, quest is cool, final fight is cool and now I have an epic mount. Ho! Ho! Ho!

I can also finally get to ride my Frostwolf Howler which I've had for 6 levels but always been too skint/tight to pay for the epic mount skill. Which, basically, I wanted to earn through doing this damn quest.

Yeah, I feel like I've experienced most of the lock quest because we ran a friend through most of the final steps in one night a few months ago. So while it was cool to see, I have no urge to go through it again when/if I eventually level my own Lock to 60+

I also had a lot of fun on the warlock quest chain back when the max level was 60. The pally one, on the other hand, was so much of a pita I never did get around to doing it. I just leveled my pally on the normal mount until he'd earned enough to buy an epic, which had dropped in price enough to the be cheaper than what you had to spend in materials for the quest.

The druid epic flight form quest is also quite fun and definitely worth getting, though I flew around on a griffon for 6 months or so until I joined a guild where people actually help each other. Of course, when you've just dumped about 5k on training the 250g for the mount looks pretty cheap in comparison.

I hate how they're making dreadsteeds and chargers trainable.  Neither of those mounts was ever needed, and if you didn't want to be bothered you could just buy regular mount training and never have to worry about it, especially since the price of regular mount training is comparable to the expense of doing the quest.  The quest mount was more of a perk for those who went through the extra trouble.  Difficult, maybe not, but it differentiated those who were willing to put in a little extra effort to get the cool mount, from the ones who just wanted to ride fast.

At least Blood Knights don't get their tabard unless they go through the quest.  What extra do Alliance paladins and Warlocks get?  Nothing.  I haven't done the charger quest on my Alliance paladin and probably never will, cause I don't really care for the mount (and I just got the Horseman's mount on her tonight) and there's no secondary bonus like a cool tabard.

The blood elf paladin mount quest was much easier (in my opinion) than the Alliance one (yes, I am broken, I have paladins on BOTH SIDES). If you like reading your quests and such, it's totally worth doing if they leave the quest in as an option. The main bummer is you need 5 dark runes for one step, and those were a pain in the ass for me to get.

Also, the end phase of the Alliance paladin horse quest isn't impossible to do with the change, just way less interesting. Get a level 70 AEer and it's easy-peasy.

I went to Scholo today for a guildmate's paladin alt. Just because you're socially crippled doesn't mean everyone else is.

This was just one of those things that really didn't need changing.

With the new achievement system, there is a huge number of people running those instances for the sake of achievements.  e.g. When I did a /who of my low pop server there are 4 70's there -right now-.  I've noticed a solid half dozen people in my guild doing it in the past few weeks.  It takes a typical 70 somewhere between 10 and 30 minutes to clear out a wing of strat, so that should give you an idea of how many people are doing it.

The horde paladin one takes literally 5 minutes tops if you can find someone who has the key for the side door; I ran some random dudes paladin through it when I was already in the area for unrelated reasons.

Yeah, there's a little bit of a run on all sorts of weird shit at the moment, with achievements newly out and everyone just sort of spinning their wheels waiting for Lich King. That'll be over with in a couple of weeks, leaving the epic "get a max-level to solo an obsolete instance while you watch" quest as pointless as ever were it not removed. I'm certainly not going to dick with it, since I'll be able to train the spell for a few gold come next patch.

No, really. I'm trying to imagine possible reasons why someone would enjoy keeping the quest in some horribly obsolete legacy instance, and I'm not coming up with much else. Someone who just thinks the quest ought to be hard would probably like the "change it to some dungeon that gets legit use" idea since watching a couple of max-level buddies plow through grey mobs isn't exactly challenging content. Someone who likes the old legacy instances for their own sake would probably just bitch that they needed to be retuned to get that legit use on their own.

About the only sort of person I can imagine going "Fuck solo players, leaving significant quests sitting in long-abandoned group instances is AWESOME!" is... well... yeah.

Before the achievement system, the only way to get someone to spend time in an old dungeon was to pay them and even then it had to be some serious change if you could even come up with a figure.  I had a hard enough time getting guildmates to run Strat and other similar dungeons when they WERE the top end of game instances, much less now that they are obsolete and even less people do them anymore.

You people must have horrible friends.  Whenever I see a friend leveling a warlock and they get to 60, I'm usually right on them about their mount quest and helping them do it, as I have the pieces still on my warlock.  Paladins, I could care less about the mount, but if they've shown the slightest interest in doing the quest, I'm still eager to help.  And when I leveled my own warlocks and Blood Knight, it was similar.  People jumped right in to help, they just saw I hit 60 and were like, 'are you ready to do the dungeons yet?'

Believe it or not, some people who play this game don't have game friends, or if they do, their game friends' playtime hours are different from their own.

I was in a large guild pre-TBC, and yet never did the mount quest until my lock was mid-60s.  I could only play my guild's hours on weekends, and weekends were busy with BWL and that junk.

Once this initial achievement rush goes away, it will again be very difficult to find people to do the mount quests.  Blizzard's making a good call here, I think.

I guess this means I can get rid of my candle and lodestone and whatever thingie in my bank for lock mounts.

Does this count for the duird epic flight-form?  Or just the flight-form?  I got all the way to the end of the epic flight-form quest, but I only had one friend left playing at that time and I never could get it all together to complete the quest.
